Wonder if they'll be taking a coach to oakwell Or if they'll all have their own individual chauffeur driven limousines.
Re: Wonder if they'll be taking a coach to oakwell It'll be street urchins carrying them on cushions of silk I hope.
Lets all make assumptions and jump to conclusions, then argue the toss over these assumptions. Personally I blame BMBC.
Re: Wonder if they'll be taking a coach to oakwell No doubt there'll be young gypsy girls throwing flowers at their feet as they enter the ground while a dozen eunuchs sing them lullabies and a team of Thai masseuses oil down their tired bodies.
The players stay at their own houses for home games. Some of the players who live far away might stay with players who live locally.
Re: Wonder if they'll be taking a coach to oakwell If it helps them to get three points today, I'm all for it!
They are secret shoppers, it's a good way to boost your income, have a look on moneysavingexpert forum. That's what someone told my friends friend on myspace anyway.
They all dont stay in hotels if you remember last year Doyle came to a game late and got punished so those staying in hotels id gather are paying just a thought.
Under FA rules Barnsley FC have to pay for the away team to stay in a hotel the evening before a home, and the other way round when we are away, it saves the away club having to mess around trying to book hotels and such like. its been like this for two seasons in the Championship now, follow the lead of the premier league who have had the rule for years, but its up to the away team if they choose to take it up or not, so if Barnsley had already booked the hotel for lester and then they sent message saying they where traveling up on the day it makes sence to let our players use it if they want to
Why are people getting wound up about this, Unbelievable, if you talk to any player that has played in the top two tiers and in some instances below that they will tell you it is common place and has been for years and years. In Fact under Spackman they used to go to a hotel on the day of an evening match and were force fed chicken and pasta then sent to bed for a few hours kip. This board is in some kind of melt down with regards to the club. Some people are jumping on anything they can in some sort of moral indignation at the drop of a hat. Either these people are opposition fans on a wind up or in my old age I have failed to understand the new remit that defines the meaning of been a FAN. I will critcise when it's warrented. ie. a bad performance, bad ticketing arrangements etc. players wages, but players stopping in a hotel the night before a home match!!!!!!, a throw away tongue in cheek comment from a manager!!!!! ffs grow up, its football. Thats what happens, always has, always will.
I would have thought the majority of teams do it e.g. Leeds United stay at Oulton Hall for every home game. Not many Barnsley players live locally and a 2-hour drive is not the ideal preparation for a match so why not let the players relax and bond together. They'll probably have a season-long deal with the hotel. They're professional sportsmen and need the best preparation. In the grand scheme of things a few hundred quid once a fortnight isn't such a big deal.
Hemmys that is not how it works. They live within an hour or an hour and a half of Barnsley so commuting is not an unreasonable expectation. Most people I work with, some of them very high earners, only stay in hotels if the meeting is an early start and it's over two hours away.
Re: Why are people getting wound up about this, I make no wonder we were crap under Spackman if they were force feeding the players!
Exactly! But........... oh the unfettered umbrage. Let's have another disgustofest. We haven't had one for at least 24 hours. How dare he spend the club's money on hotels for home games. In fact, I think he should consult the fans before he farts - just in case someone thinks he has no business to. I thought we'd topped out on the criticism, but we've gone to a new level FFS!
Re:-make no wonder we were crap under Spackman if they were force feeding the players LOL, bit tongue in cheek that comment, but in general that was the kind of food on offer to the players, the sleep bit was true, and if you can recall, under Spackman we always started a bit slow, and when I was told about this pre match ritual I thought it explained it all.
