Buy a bike sithi or some walking boots or some books - use your time away from watching BFC to get thisen away from the drivel that is football "analysis", you'll be amazed at what else there is out there in the world.
As far as I know FM has a stronger signal than DAB. Analogue radio will go just like analogue TV did but it should be good for a fair few years yet.
FM will be stronger than DAB and more widely available. If you travelling, a DAB radio will keep cutting out. For example, you'd hear something like this "Latest news: We've just heard that Barnsley have sold............to............for a fee of ............million, rising to ............million after ............appearances. Meanwhile, Barnsley have swooped to sign the prolific ............from............for............million as a replacement." Yes, you'll need FM when travelling.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Radios-B...8&qid=1484257740&sr=8-1&keywords=pocket+radio £15 bang on. As Stahlrost says, you'll be better with FM/AM and that's all you'll need for five live and talksport.
I've just got a Goodmans pocket DAB /DAB+/FM radio off Amazon. It has a built in loudspeaker. I don't like earplugs but if you've got some decent headphones it is really very good. £37 from Amazon, used free delivery (not Prime).... ordered it on Sunday afternoon and it was here at 10a.m. Monday. Bloody good. The sound quality is good enough through the loudspeaker to listen to speech radio, music channels, Jazz FM etc, but obviously there's no depth of tone due to it being a small speaker. You can plug it into your hifi speakers via a 3.5mm jack cable and it sounds great. It charges through your usb phone charger so no pissing about with batteries. It's about 4 x 2 x 1 inches. The only drawback is the very thin aerial but if you are careful it isn't a problem. I'm delighted with it so far, it is a replacement for my Roberts Sports DAB pocket radio which has simply gone kaput. Have a look, it is lots cheaper than the current Roberts Sports at about £80 or more and does a more than adequate job.
Why? it's actually something I'm going to get. It's boring traveling long distances. The M1 isn't exactly fun viewing.
Not as such I don't think but I don't know the exact details. I lose the DAB signal for radio Sheffield in the car around Manchester when I drive that way, although I can often get the FM signal in Merseyside. From what I understand, the DAB signal is transmitted from the same transmitters as FM. You could stream it on iPlayer radio via a smartphone depending on data allowance and battery life. I you're using it in the car then look for one with a USB charging so you can keep it powered in the car, if you car doesn't have a USB slot you can get a gizmo with USB sockets that plugs into your car lighter. The Bush one I mentioned above has that don't know about the others (Bush one only has 5 hours life when it's not plugged in though).
I can still get Radio Sheffield when I'm camping wild on top of Bleaklow, but it doesn't work on Penyghent or Whernside.
Gone and bought one of these http://www.argos.co.uk/product/2559669 it seems better from using it than it looks in the picture.
What about some colouring in books to pass the time on those long away trips. Very relaxing apparently.
