The two guys are Ali Maxwell and George Elik. George Elek is an Oxford United fan and I'm not sure how Ali supports as far as I know he hasn't mentioned it in the 6 or so years I've been listening. I guess they're journos but not in the mainstream, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher kind of manner. Two blokes you'd be happy to sit down and have a pint with, is the best way I can describe them.
I find “under the cosh” a little too “waffley” and “banterbus” for me at times, although when they get into the meat of a players career it can be really interesting to be sure. I could easily fast forward the first 20 minutes of each episode! “Our thing” does sound right up my street though. There are some really good true crime podcasts on BBC sounds, but my personal favourite for anyone into British military history or WWII has got to be be “We have ways” with the pub landlord Al Murray and historian James Holland. Proper interesting stuff 90% of the time and quite a back catalogue now.Definitely give it a go if this is your area of interest. Dan Snows “History Hit” can also have its moments, if you pick and choose episodes you both fancy and cut through his awful adverts!
The Rest is Politics with Rory Stewart and Alastair Campbell. Always a really interesting and informative take on what's going on in politics around the world. The Rest is History. The Newsagents with Jon Sopell, Emily Maitliss and Kewis Goodall. Great for UK and US politics.
I'll try "history hit" and "we have ways" both sound of interest so I'll give them a try. "Our Thing" has got a decent back catalogue too for you to get stuck into. The New York accent, the humour and definitely the terminology gets in your head. I heard my boss talking about someone and my first thoughts were to think of him as a "Rat *******" .
I think he mentioned once that he was a Chelsea fan but just loves the EFL. Either way, great podcast.
The socially distanced sports bar - go and listen to the 2 show “interview” with Collin Murray - it’s hilarious. The rest is entertainment - marina Hyde & Richard Osman.
Brill, pick a couple of “we have ways” episodes that are of interest, then once you are into your stride go back to the start to make more sense of the in-jokes! Definitely worth while.
Ali is a Chelsea fan. He used to run the well known Twitter/Blog called TheMakeleleRole before transitioning to NTT20. Both top blokes who should have a permanent slot doing the EFL stuff on Sky
Shameless plug. Give mine a listen. Finished series 1 with 8 episodes talking about how I went from walking to in a wheelchair in the space of no time at all. And the challenges I’ve faced since. I’ve had great feedback over 3k listens, it might make you laugh, it might make you cry it might do just neither but I’m pretty proud of it. One Step at a Time - Adam Whitehead on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google podcasts. Other than that , Undr the Cosh, PTI (us sport) and The Bye Round - James Graham talks all things NRL.
Another vote for NTT20 - essential weekly listening. Other football related podcasts I listen to are: The Gab and Jules Show The Athletic FC Podcast Fitness/Health related Podcasts: Original Strength Bodcast (some great material thought nothing new for a while) The Dan John Podcast Desert Islands Discs is great especially as you can cherry pick the episodes. Periodically listen to the Knowledge Project though its lost it's original allure. Also recommend Stay Free: The Story of The Clash Podcast by Chuck D.
