Well I'm still going

Anyone with a season ticket will I'm sure.

The quality was ok up to a few weeks ago, but when it drops and you have a few disasters, that's when fans get tested.

The big problem I find is that there doesn't seem to be enough done to keep the interest of the match ticket buyers, and more particularly the potential fan base that will be Barnsley's future supporters.

My son, student and previous ST holder as a kid does not go anymore. Can't afford to.

What concerns me more is that he attends a university in the north-west, where he can pick and choose from over a dozen clubs around Lancs, Manc and West Yorkshire, who offer weekend football at better rates and with better discounts than his local team.

We're all coming from somewhere different.

Money isn't a factor for me. I can get in free anyway but I wouldn't go if you offered me £50 a match.

RE: Don't get me wrong..not having a go..

Of course they have the right, god I'm not questioning that. But my point is that Windy's question SEEMS to be based on the recent poor results - and of course the high cost of tickets to football these days means that if the quality is poor, you're less likely to go. But I honestly think we've played well in every home game except Yeovil (Yes, even last week!), so I'm a bit confused as to what people are really saying.

    Priorities!

I understand your comment about giving nights up to buy a season ticket. However that's simply choosing one past time over another! Your making comments to people who have houses, mortgages, wifes, families etc. The choice then isn't one past over another it becomes a much more difficult decision to justify £30 for 2 hours out! I'm not meaning to be patronising but you must look at it from a wider point.

    Results!!

Surely you are pulling my leg.

You don't support Barsnley and expect to see a team that wins all the time. Season after season of mid-table mediocrity in division one proves that.

Cost I can agree with. Not enjoying the style of football, fine.

    But results!!!

If you want to support a team for results may I suggest visiting Chelsea, and then in a few seasons reviewing it if someone better comes along.

    Apologies Jay...

That comment sounded like a generalisation, and maybe it was, though I didn't intend it to be. I know some people genuinely can't afford to go, and I sympathise... I know what it's like to be skint. My comments were not aimed at people who simply do not have the £20 note needed to get in, but rather the ones (for example) who will miss the match as they've 'got no money', and then go out at night and spend £40. In that case, the cost isn't the factor, it's the fact that they'd rather get drunk than watch Barnsley (which I can understand!). What I'm saying is that those people just use the cost as an excuse. As I say, I'd sacrifice a night out to go to a match, however crap we are, but maybe I'm just young and foolish.

    RE: Priorities!

I do understand believe me... but it's amazing how if were top of the league as opposed to bottom say, that suddenly 4000-5000 supporters can suddenly afford to come down and give up the time. Who are these people if they all have families/wives etc and can't give up the time?

    "Go out and spend £40"?

Who are these people? Do they hang round with me? It could explain why I spend a fortune, paying for these tight sods.

They're the people who like me are staying away for reasons other than the cost factor.

    Fair point

5 years ago my priorities would have been the same! However I would now prefer to spend the money going out with mates / wife / family (in that order!) because I know I will enjoy it, rather than coming home and the rest of the weekend being spoiled.I suppose it a case of 'lifes too short' to put yourself in a position you know is going to end negatively!

ery few people have the luxury of doing whatever they want

Everyone has their priorities. I'm just the same. In the past Barnsley football club has taken priority and I've seldom gone out on the piss in the last few years as I always preferred to go to the match. But after the last two price increases it's no longer a case of either I go to the match or I do summat else, it's a case of even if I don't do anything else I still can't afford to go to the game. I used to take advantage of the advanced ticket prices which meant two season ago all games were £14. The Oldham match on Saturday is £20. That's an increase of over 40% in two seasons and it's priced me out of going.

So why are you staying away?

10 points and 3 good performances out of 5 home games not good enough for you?

What exactly do you expect as a Barnsley supporter?

    Gotta be said Gaz

Trying to buy a round when you're about is extremely difficult. Hang back from the bar a bit, man! I definitely owe you a few pints. Or girly alcopops if you prefer.

I understand mate, sorry if my post seemed rather generalised and unfair... it really wasn't aimed at everyone, and I should have explained better.

    You misunderstand!

I didn't say these people can't afford, or don't have the time, clearly the majority of people do have both to some extent. What I'm saying is it becomes increasing difficult to 'justify' spending the money on BFC when you have other priorities. If results / performances / clubs treatment of fans etc was better then justifying it would be easier.
