a march for peace on a day that was created to remember the horrors of war. What could be more appropriate.

There’s football matches on the 11th. Shall we bin those too? There’s a 2 minute silence. Most years this falls on a weekday and we all go back to work straight after the world doesn’t stop.

The march Is more respectful than the pubs where people go back to drinking after the silence. The march is 2 hours later.

Remembrance Sunday is the day after and no march is planned.

I’m very happily going to the march.

Remembrance Sunday is indeed to remember those fallen in the horrors of war

Unfortunately there doesn't seem like there'll be a ceasefire any time soon.

well if it’s disrespectful to protest against state sponsored genocide on the ‘armistice weekend’ then surely pubs where people get drunk are a bit more disrespectful. Football games again pretty disrespectful.

Football game kicks off at 12.30. Before the start of the march. Either both are disrespectful or neither is.

I think "a bit of a knob" is putting it lightly. Fascist, racist thug, would still be putting it mildly.

ive been quite close to him a couple of times when his thuggish mates were trying to intimidate some marches I’ve been on.. Funny thing is he’s about 2 feet tall (and obviously coked up all the time).

nope don’t get it ,why shouldn’t people go about their lives if they want?
I said in an earlier post my only problem with the protest being this weekend was it was likely to cause problems for the veterans wanting to pay their respects to their fallen colleagues, while they still can, because of the numb nuts it will likely attract EDL ( or whatever they are called these days) etc

Seriously, he misworded it but no one in their right mind could interpret it the way you're suggesting.

sorry but I didn’t interpret anything, it was there in black and white, I wasn’t trying to be arsey or anything that’s what the bloke wrote and I felt it needed to be corrected

You might not have been trying to be arsey if you say you weren’t, but you certainly pulled it off regardless.

So we aren’t allowed to point out something that is insulting or wrong anymore?
It’s going to be a pretty shitty forum

I'd forgot about Tommy Terrorist. The only difference between him and Abu Hamza al-Masri is the hook.

some peoples lives are centred around things other than getting pissed. They may have family in Palestine. They may see going on a peace march as a good way to celebrate the memory of the Palestinians who died in the war.

The right wing football thugs & EDL idiots will be the only ones causing trouble. If they do then the police can arrest them. If we start not doing things because if thugs then we really are heading towards dark times.

I think it’s more than reasonable for members of the armed forces to celebrate / remember for the whole weekend if they want. I have a couple of family members who are ex military and they will be linking up with old friends and remembering the way they see fit. It’s equally reasonable for the match to go ahead nowhere near the cenotaph and not at the time of the 2 minutes silence. As you say life goes on. And we can’t make it stand still cos a few idiot racists are looking for trouble.

How would you have dealt with the terrorist attack then? Iam not having a go but just wondered what you'd have done.

I totally get what you mean, and I would normally agree that you can’t stand still for a few idiots my concern was a lot of the participants from the services are now very elderly and disabled, and I can see extremists from both of the other camps going over the top.

If it's a peace march then it would be far more meaningful and wonderful if it were indeed a march for peace which included jews and arabs alike.

This will not be the case. Not a peace march.

It will be a march to press for a free Palestine.

Both sides on this divide are as bad as each other, certainly in terms of leadership.

It's not our scrap. We're no longer a player on the big stage.

Our job is to manage as best we can the understandable grievances of others.

But this is Saturday, and given the way the calendar has fallen, our own pride passion and remembrance falls to this Sunday.

Its worrying as to just how bad the atmosphere might get, with some people suggesting they will 'get involved and sort them out, if the police don't!'!.
That's the last thing that a day like that needs.

Also when Ive been out in public during the minutes silence, it disgusts me when some people (of all races) show no respect whatsoever.
