Didn't help, but we *****ed money away on any old ***** on big and long contracts to get back in the prem.itv digital going tits up provided an excuse imho.
Any way the bigger issue is that Portsmouth are in administration for a THIRD time.Once is unfortunate, twice is careless but three times is a damn right piss take.
Apparently not. I believe that the ITV digital collapse meant that we would be immune to a points deduction due to 'unforseen circumstances'. As I understand it you don't get a points deduction if you go into administration because of another club's refusal to pay you money owed or if your debts have been racked up due to unforseen circumstances such as a significant breach of contract by a third party.
Interesting. I would have thought though if such a large potential loophole exists, that more teams would use it to attempt to avoid losing points.
I may be reading it wrong buy the football league website says the following are identified as circumstances which it is intended would be embraced under the category of 'Force Majeure'. It is intended that this appeals process should be limited to circumstances which are deemed unforeseeable and unavoidable. In all these examples, each case would have to be considered on its own merits:Club Income: In the event that a club suffers material adverse effects upon the loss of anticipated income streams which mean that it is unable to meet its liabilities as and when they fall due. This could only be grounds for appeal, however, if the loss occurs during the currency of a binding agreement (i.e. not upon expiry).Default by another Club: In circumstances where an insolvency event is caused by the default of another football club. Once again, however, for this to constitute legitimate grounds for appeal, the outstanding payments must be significant enough to have had a material and adverse effect upon the Club.
Agree with you there JC,and to be fair to the Pompey players they grafted their b***s off for 94 mins. The fans of all clubs want their players to be the best they can get, unfortunately very few fans have a realistic view,Portsmouth have been unfortunate enough to have owners who also don't have a realistic view.
Re: This going by Plane - where is it from in my old job I used to fly regularly from Southampton to Leeds-Bradford on a Friday afternoon - flight would always appear to be empty and then about 10 mins from take-off it would fill up with about 30 or so from Pompey on a regular basis when they were playing in the north. Often wondered about this - daft thing was that their coach would come up empty and pick them up at Leeds for the trip to the hotel. Madness - Cotterill would always sit away from the players with Kit Symons. This was at the time when Dicko was there and he was the regular prankster - always racing to the baggage reclaim to take away someones elses bag and hide it and leave them waiting for it to come off the belt. this was only last season so shows how big time they felt they still were. Could never work it out as by the time they have travelled from Pompey to Soton, checked in, flown sorted out the other end and driven to the hotel there cant have been much in it timewise. Memory serves this was about 4 times I saw them - think it was the donny, hull, blades & scunny games.
Re: This going by Plane - where is it from Barnsley 2-0 Portsmouth: Daily Mirror match reportwhy they only had three subs-------- http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...ard-as-he-hasn-t-been-paid-article867392.html Published 21:29 19/02/12 By Jeremy Butler Recommend Daily-Mirror-match-reports generic Dave Kitson has avoided a fine for his red card at Oakwell because Portsmouth are not paying him any wages to dock the cash from! The veteran striker was dismissed in the 41st minute for committing a second bookable offence and although Pompey’s 10 men clung on until the dying stages, goals by Jim O’Brien and Matty Done won it for Barnsley. But boss Michael Appleton concedes Kitson will not be punished for his dismissal as he has not been paid his wages for the past month due to *Portsmouth’s financial crisis. He said: “The red card has cost us but when players are not being paid it is hard to fine them!” Kitson’s suspension is another headache for Appleton who is confused by the Football League’s refusal to let him bring in players to beef up his squad. Injuries to six key men meant he could only field three subs as the game’s law makers are imposing tough restrictions on his ability to sign new players. George Thorne was allowed to join on loan from West Brom but other moves were blocked. “The rigmarole we had to go through to get George done was crazy,” Appleton explained. “We had to fax through what our injuries were and how long we thought they would be out. It was incredible really. “The Football League says we only need 14 senior players to be competitive. We have to have three subs but the goalposts keep moving. They now consider Adam Webster to be a senior *professional despite him having three small substitute performances. “That meant I couldn’t put any more kids on the bench here in case the League then turn around and say they should be counted as senior professionals, too. It is getting ridiculous.” Barnsley took their time *overcoming Portsmouth, who, thanks to this week’s 10-point deduction, are now in the *relegation zone. O’Brien finally opened them up by slotting home from distance in the 75th minute before sub Done raced away in the final seconds to net. Tykes boss Keith Hill said: “Sometimes when teams go down to 10 men it can work against you, but we managed the game well. “Once the first one went in, it was a relief, but we knew then we’d get a result.”
