So an under 23 coach is who we’re putting our faith in?? Jesus H Christ. At least I can have a day out at Fratton Park again…
They'd have been better giving MD and BH a crack at it if they wanted a youth coach instead of some bloke from Sweden who won't have a clue about the players the league but who we need to hit the ground at 100mph for us to even have a chance of staying up. The appt stinks of a board always looking for the cheap option where the chance of profit is paramount and who have given up caring about league position that's if they ever really cared about it to start with. I really hope I'm made to look completely and utterly stupid for writing this post come next May but sadly I don't think I will be.
I'm not saying it's the best appointment in the world, because I don't know and come the end of the season whatever I say could be blown out if the water. But: He's been identified by the same criteria which found Stendel, Struber and Ismael. He's got experience in the Swedish top league and has won something in it with a currently unfashionable team. IFK winning the Cup is like Everton winning the FA Cup. He's got experience of managing good young players, which I think we agree, we have. He hasn't been appointed by his Swedish mate, the CEO as he has been interviewed before and was linked again when Ismael took the job. He's a much higher rated coach than Flynn. I'm cautiously optimistic.
I'm gunna get behind him. Yes it's underwhelming, yes it's meh but the players have been dogger w@nk all season. I'll give him a League 1 promotion push.
You cant write off a new manager before he starts. He looks a decent appointment to me with what ive read on the tinternet, i think i might hold judgement a bit until hes had a few games.
A new manager is something that's generally excited me in the past, the promise of some change, better times ahead etc. I feel very underwhelmed by this one. Not because of who he is, whilst I've no idea whether he will be any good or not, he might perhaps turn out to be another Ismael. But whether he is or isn't doesn't really matter because imo he'll be another that's gone inside 18 months. It's a continuation of discontinuity. The only long term strategy our owners have is to attract people / commodities they can turn a profit on in the shortest time period possible. When he's appointed, there's a new question I'd like RS and the Chron to ask: were we forced to add a release clause to the contract in order to get him? I'd wager the answer will be 'yes' (of course KEA won't answer the question though) and the owners will be eagerly looking forward to the time they can benefit from it.
Makes no difference whether this guy turns out to be another Schopp or a football genius who takes us from second bottom to automatic promotion by May, he'll be gone as soon as somebody meets his release clause if he's half decent or used as an human shield for a bit by the board then sacked if he's crap. Barnsley FC have become the Aldi / Lidl of the football world and the new head coach will either be a profitable sale or chucked in the bins when he's passed his sell by date.
If he keeps us up I guess he'll have earned any big money move he gets. If I do a cracking job at work and another department or company head hunts me for a significant pay increase, I'll be off, trust me.
True, but do you not think that if the bosses in your department or company are constantly thinking short term then they're unlikely to deliver any long term improvement?
Not sure its a cheap option, compensation will have to be paid for him and his number two plus relocation costs , it sounds an expensive option to me especially when you consider there are British out of work options with experience in the championship , I have a feeling this could be a very costly mistake, hope i am wrong .
If it was any other business, I'd agree, but it's not just Barnsley FC. It's almost every football club in the EFL.
How sure are we that this is the guy anyway - Giddings didnt seem at all convinced - see tweet mentioned earlier in this thread
Nailed on to be appointed. I've had £20 on him the last two times we've needed a new gaffer........and it isn't third time lucky for me.
