Exactly. I doubt the club would appoint somebody that would be set on a formation that doesn’t really work for the group of players we’ve got. Unless they’re planning on doing a decent amount of transfer business in January, which I very much doubt.
From a transfer business point of view, I can understand wanting to play with 3 strikers, as attacking players generally sell for more than defensive players. Historically though, with the exception of Ashley Ward, we tend to get more money for defenders. Stones, Mawson, Pinnock etc. If we've an attacking 3 playing well, we might sell two like Brentford tend to, and make a large profit on them, and rely on the data to get unproven youngsters who we can also develop. 3-4-3 potentially allows us to play 3 strikers and 2 wingers, which i think would generally go for more money than 3 centre backs and two defensive midfielders. But this is also why I think we can afford to break with the model to have an experienced CB and defensive midfield player we've either taken on a free or on loan. We won't recoup the costs on them, but it should enhance the value of others. COVID and Brexit have broken the model though, because it's now much harder to recruit from abroad, and no one has any cash to stump up for prospect players, only superstars.
Best line up for me tomorrow: Collins Sibbick, Helik, Moon J. Williams, Benson, Palmer, Ben Williams Freiser, Woodrow, Oduor.
Andersen has to play, surely fit to play now and personally I think you’re on the wind up if you think Ben Williams should start in front of Styles?
It was a mock 11 that will stretch some of the weaker players. Hopefully the new management team see how bad they are and give them an extended rest. I'd have picked Adeboyejo if I was allowed 12 men and played Brittain over J.Williams if he wasn't suspended. I suspect Brittain has got off lightly his suspension coming against Fulham.
I've seen reports that he's played a 3-4-3, 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2. To be honest, I don't care what formation they play, as long as the team looks like they are organised. I'd go; 343 Collins Sibbick Helik Andersen Brittain Gomes Palmer Styles Morris Woodrow Iseka 4231 Collins Williams Helik Andersen Kitching Gomes Palmer Morris Styles Iseka Woodrow Only question I'd have of the 4231 is whether Iseka would need to play more centrally. Given recent scoring form, he could well be pushing Woodrow out of the side.
I'm just amazed how many would play Gomes and Benson together in the middle. Every championship midfield I've seen so far would bully them into the ground, skillful or not. For me, one of Hondermarck or Palmer has to play in there to give us some fight.
Which is still a thousand times more than there is in Gomes from what I've seen. Players like Gomes and Benson need someone alongside them so they can influence the game. Ideally we need to get Palmer or Hondermarck playing up to scratch or otherwise bring in a tough experienced CM in January. As much as I don't agree with it, I can see why we ended up playing Moon there. We're just so lightweight in the middle.
Palmer aint started last 5 games but had 3 sub appearances, Gomes was my and many others MoM against Derby but followed that with a poor performance against Hull and Benson did okay coming on as sub at Bristol but last time out the defensive side of his game was woeful. All a big bag of inconsistency which runs throughout the team. Good luck Poya.
Benson was my motm against Derby but then was poor against Hull a few days later. Like you’ve said, no consistency throughout. But then I guess that’s what you get with younger players.
