Do elaborate? All I remember is Dion f*cking Dublin and Gary b*starding Willard. I was only 10 at the time.
Re: Sixteen years since! Fantastic memories of the Premiership.Made much sweeter if you are of a certain age and was raised on div.4 with the occasional flirtation with div.3.That for me is what supporting your team is all about, good times and bad.
Re: Agreed, old friend A general memory was the shear physicality of the opposition week in week out. Players you'd seen week in week out on MOTD that you thought were 'tricky wingers' came and were as big as our biggest
Jeff Winter. Also being at Swilsboro to watch us lose to D.I ****io scoring when he should have been sent off earlier. Plenty of good points like beating United, beating Liverpool and a less talked about moment getting our first points of the season away at Palace with a clean sheet. Remember listening to it on the radio in Blackpool.
Loads of memories from that season but not many related to bfc. I was playing football Saturday and Sunday then, and partying hard. Happy days but not the memories you were after.
Michael Owen, Steve McManaman, Alan Shearer, Di Canio,.......and that's without thinking and analyzing the job!
I was flying from Amsterdam to Sheffield Airport (didn't last long did it?) with a female colleague who happened to be a Wednesday fan. As we were waiting to board the plane I spotted Arjan De Zeeuw in the queue so naturally engaged him in conversation. When I mentioned that my colleague was a Wednesday fan Arjan immediately said "...De Canio is a lovely person". She was slightly surprised to say the least!!
And Arjen was probably one of our more articulate players........god only knows what Shez would have said?
Can't remember much too ****ed on happiness. Liverpool away stands out. On a train from London with my mate Paul and a carriage full of Liverpool fans saying that even Rob Jones would score against us. Bumping into the New Zealand Rugby team in a pub afterwards and said Liverpool fans not being so chatty on way back. Will remember the numbness of Leicester forever.
Red hot sunny day shorts and Tarn shirt 1st match of season vs West Ham. Taking an early lead in said match. Thinking we'll be allright this season. Danny Cadamateri (sp?) running us ragged at Goodison Park. Burly scouser complaining to the coppers cos someone had given him a slap also at Goodison. Striking masterclass by Vialli in 6-0 thrashing. When we were 5-0 down in same match singing "we're gonna win 6-5" Dee daa W*nkio! Out singing the Mancs at Old Trafford while being 7-0 down. Cheating Dion Dublin at Highfield Road. Minefields by The Prodigy blasting out pre game at Highfield Road. Pissed up fool at Highbury in the seat in front of me trying to stand on his seat, then trying to stand on the top of the back of his seat then falling flat on his face. Liverpool at home. Leicester away when we were finally relegated singing you'll never walk alone to the team. Arsenal at home singing champions to them and the Arsenal fans cheering us.
