It's a sign of the times, init? This is being discussed on another thread - it seems English players go for a sight more than an equivalently skilled foreign player. For clubs on tight budgets it's clear which is the best choice. I think some of the foreign players we have signed have been good for the club and the town, there's a bit of a buzz when the likes of Mosttro put pen to paper and, when they perform and set a decent example, they do more for race relations in Barnsley than a million "Kick Racism Out Of Football" billboards!!! However, I do sometimes think (fantasize, even!) what games against Washday and the Blunts would be like with eleven broad speaking, no nonsense, slightly better at passing Chris Morgans on the field!
RE: If you can't beat em, join em... England's team now is as good as it's ever been except between 1965-1971.
simply if the foriegn lads play with passion and commitment then i will be very proud that they play for my team
'However, I do sometimes think (fantasize, even!) what games against Washday and the Blunts would be like with eleven broad speaking, no nonsense, slightly better at passing Chris Morgans on the field!' .............25 years ago you would get much closer to this ideal. The standard of football and pace of the game was undoubtably not as good as now. Yet, when you win it meant more. Perhaps, I'm just a little older than most to appreciate this and respect that 'what you haven't had, you will not miss' .
Mate, I'm just being realistic... YES, I would love it if Barnsley could be as successful with all home grown players as foreigners, but it's no longer feasible it would seem. As long as BFC win, I'm not bothered who's playing because I accept the current situation is unlikely to change. It is a shame I agree.
RE: We all got the point... ....no we didn't. ....the point was local pride just failed v best chance of success. Put it this way, if BFC fielded a team of 11 players this season all from tarn and it's surrounding districts and finised 7th, to me that would be a greater achievement -given the state of English football - than a cosmopolitan 11 finisihing 6th and getting promoted.. The prize monetary and status wise would be far less, but the pride would be far more....got it?? (see title of original mail).
RE: We all got the point... I did read it, I'd have more pride wearing a Barnsley Premiership shirt with Mostto on after a thrilling play off final win at Wembley, than a Championship shirt with Laight/Austin/Heckingbottom/Kay etc on. Each to their own of course.
I'll go wi thee mate Would rather us stay where we are. Championship is our natural level. Punching above our weight in the Prem. Don't get me wrong, loved every minute we there but really we were never going to stay there. Come on Tarn lets prove the ***** wrong, WE ARE CHAMPIONSHIP AND THAT'S WHERE WE BELONG!
Yeah! Get a life! What brought ADMINISTRATION on? Rather us stay in Championship until I die (I'm only in mi 30's) than going up and trying to buy players on stupid Premiership wages who aren't GUARANTEED to keep us up. Favourites to go down!
Although Perhaps I'm due an eye test. Took me another few time to notice he only said TARN born lads. Soz Mark!
If we've got 11 Martians playing for us, I don't care. As long as they give it everything they've got, that's good enough for me.
