You're right it shouldn't, but we know that these things tend to end up being leveraged and not great if you don't end up being the one benefitting from it.
Presumably because at the time she’d have thought that he was untouchable and that she may have even been at risk from threatening to go public. She may have considered it better to do that, and know that she did at least get an acknowledgment of the crime and some compensation, for a small bit of closure.
