The initial remark was aimed at Acky (as a joke) 'cos I know he's a bit of a lefty - it wasn't intended to be any sort of political commentary or opinion.

However, in answer to your question - getting rid of our monarchy would not necessarily make us a communist state, no. That said, if we were to become a communist state it would, more likely than not, involve getting shut of the royal family.

The Bolsheviks were communists. I agree the interpretation of communism has changed and it means a different thing to different people but, I think I'm right in thinking, the Russian Revolution installed communism (in it's initial form) in Russia.

Much as I admire the Russians and the French for their history in such matters I think us Brits should do things the British way. Less drama and fuss, a quiet, dignified solution - stick 'em all in a council house with a job in the local factory sorting screws for twelve hours a day with Lizzie and Phil drawing a pension. If they're as superior as some folk reckon they'll be able to work their way back up to the rank of head of state again!

 

Perhaps if the media hadn't been all over this story then it may not have turned out like this.

He would be a prime target for kidnap, and in doing so putting his own men at a far greater risk, not to mention the massive boost it would give the insurgents if they captured him.


Should never have been announced, he should have gone with nothing given to the press and perhaps release info when he got back.

I can't understand, in this day and age, how our society can still endorse the idea so evidently that some are born better and more entitled than others. They simply do **** all. One polo game/skiing holiday after another. People who are on the dole scratching a living get called scroungers but these 'royal' people get so much more and it's justunconditional and above board.</p>

Exactly!!! Why is it ok for everyone to 'fight for queen and country' etc and he's the exception? Why send our lads to war whilst someone who is serving in an active battalion is allowed to avoid the dangers?
Wasn't it the same for Prince Andrew? Wasn't he on the Ark Royal during the Falklands? y all accounts he did 'nish' during that campaign.
Send Harry in for goodness sake! he's a person serving in the Army and so should follow the same orders as the rest of his mob.
