Me neither. I simply said that he had led a comfortable, privileged, very long life. Sorry if I have offended you by simply stating a fact.

Rest in peace HRH . A great man who led a life I wouldn't want to swap. Did a lot of good for our country and kept the monarchy stable. Seems to be a lot of bitterness and resentment towards anyone who makes a success of life. Jealousy perhaps or just another way to feel the world is against you . Great man deserves all the accolades and attention.

It's very sad of course. Any death usually is terrible for all connected/related. However, I agree with Old Gimmer - the media reaction is unbelievably sycophantic.

Old Gimmer: this means nothing to me, I have no interest
Also old Gimmer: makes a billion posts in the thread he has no interest in telling us he has no interest in it.

And that you don't give a damm but if I didn't care like you say I just wouldn't waste time commenting. Not just you on this thread reading through weather you like or agree with the royals I just think have a bit of respect.

Actually, until provoked by Redrum this morning, I had posted 8 times, you had posted 7 times. At least three of mine were humorous replies to like-minded posters. Happy to stop posting though.

But, again, I was simply stating a fact. And if you only want people to only post nice things on here then it will be a very sparse board:)

But I never said it doesn't interest me. I also deliberately didn't tag or quote you so you had no notifications because you said that's the only reason you were posting yet you still opened the thread, had a read and replied. How odd

OK, so I am odd. Listen, let’s leave it there if that’s OK. Something much more important starts in under an hour.

It’s the Barnsley way mate. Don’t like anyone that does well for themselves, look at how Dickie Bird is treated.

But if you didn't care why go out of your way to post about it....

And if someone's died I don't come out with disrespectful things

Totally agree mate. I'm Barnsley born and bred but there are a few who could turn negativity into a more positive outlook. It makes life a whole lot better. People who have done well for themselves have generally worked hard to get there. Where Phillip is concerned he chose to marry a princess for love not money. No matter who she had married there will always be some who resent it for whatever reason suits them. It always seems to come back to money and a degree of jealousy.

Agree, there’s always going to be some who are more lucky than other but I don’t begrudge them. Jealousy is a terrible trait.

Last word from me on this definitely, definitely. I have actually done pretty well, and I am absolutely not jealous of anyone. But I also believe in a meritocracy, you know, the sort where people do genuinely have to work hard to get somewhere in life. Therefore my values and beliefs do not correspond with the British idea of monarchy. I apologise wholeheartedly to anyone offended by my post yesterday, although I was simply giving my opinion, whilst anticipating the torrent of sycophancy that was about to be unleashed.

    Fairly pathetic response.
A German prince who married his 3rd cousin, marrying into a life of complete luxury doesn’t compare to a local lad who worked hard to be really good at something which made him relatively well off.

I can sort of understand people believing that a monarchy is good (accepting the status quo), I have difficulty understanding how anyone could be so stupid as to believe that hereditary monarchs should be treated as if they’re personally responsible for their hundreds of millions of £££s. Especially as some of it has come directly from our wage packets.

The death of Prince Philip is a sad event in the life of his family and friends - as are all deaths.

I didn't know Prince Philip. I don't know any of his family. I doubt I'll ever meet any of his family. His death has no more impact on me than that of Sir Tom Moore, Nicky Graham, DMX or any of the other newsworthy deaths this year. It certainly means less to me personally that Adam Schlesinger, Florian Schneider, or Dave Greenfield last year or Mira Furlan, Sarah Everard or Sylvain Sylvain this year.

Agree with this. I don’t get the outpouring of grief, at all. Doesn’t mean anything to me personally, but up to them innit. I also don’t get some of the vitriol from people. Some of the comments on this thread, have been proper $hitty. Sometimes if you have nowt nice to say, it’s probably better just to say nowt.

I've met Edward and Sophie (name dropping) at a country show ;) and had to stop twice at the front of the queue when the Queens car came past, once when she was driving herself after visiting the Queen Mum at the Royal Lodge , and the 2nd time when they passed through Egham on the way back from the Derby. Surprised I haven't been knighted already knowing them so well ;)
