We might have to disagree on that Andy. Not a fan of Croft and Perry's writing generally but I think this is top four (British) sit coms where the writing and a stellar cast were put together to create absolute comedy gold. The only ones that come close to this imo were: Dear John, Only Fools, and the daddy of them all - A Bit of a Do.
Ha Ha. Give over Helen. It was John Sullivan's best ever writing. And the quality of the cast outstanding.
I remember Dads army as a kid, and it didn't interest me then. And it was the same with Porridge as well to be honest. I've appreciated them more in recent years though, having watched them a few times on dvd.
Brilliant characterisation up there with Porridge for me British humour at its best RIP and thanks Pike
Just never liked it mate, as a young un I could sit and watch some of the older sitcoms like fawlty towers, some mothers do have em, Alf Garnett all day but would turn dads army off. I do like most British Sit coms but some I just could never get on with, allo allo, red dwarf, the office, just not for me.
Humour very personal thing one man's funny another man's stupid. Sad the young un died to be fair it's not surprising most of the rest were a fair age when it was made RIP Pike
About ten years ago, Martin Clunes was in 2 series of Reggie Perrin but it’s never quite the same when different actors try and replace such brilliant portrayals. It’s available on Prime Video
