Colgan Austin Heckingbottom Kay Reid Hassell Togwell Muller Hassell Moore Souza Foster Kozluk Colace I know which defensive line-up wouldn't stand a chance in the league this season.
Ritchies strikers weren't up to the job err.... they were just lucky to get more goals than the current bunch?
Out of that list I would bet Davey defence is on at least twice the wage bill as that of Ritchies. Purse strings opened.
Notice you don't say too much about the strikers.

Hayes, Richards, Nardiello, Wright Macken, Hume, Odejayi, Rigters. I'd still probably go for Davey's, to be honest.
RE: its fairly obvious that we have improved under Davey Chef Tyke when Davey took over we were third bottom and never 2nd bottom whilst Ritchie was manager. We were 3rd bottom for 3 games and 4th bottom for 3 games. WE were mid table after 9 games and then he had 1 win and a draw in his next 9 games before being sacked First 9 games this season 1 win and 2 draws. Dont paint things blacker than they actually were to stand by your man.
RE: That's another one of your jokes isn't it? I agree with Dyson, at least on 2 out of the 4. Macken and Hume are better than any of the strikers under Ritchie.
I also think Rigters is potentially a top player if he can sort out his fitness and grab a goal or two to help with confidence

RE: No, we never get battered 4 - 0 or anything any more. nt Every manager has bad results - even those that achieve summat like Wilson, Bassett and Ritchie But Davey surely has been in charge for the most thrashings - Wednesday 0-3 Colchester 0-3 Norwich 1-3, 1-3, 0-4 Coventry 1-4, 0-4,0-4 Ipswich 1-5 Southampton 2-5 WBA 0-7 - the most pathetic off all and he actually had the cheek to make a joke about it after And before anybody says when is 3-1 a thrashing - it is when you're at home I went to most of those games and we were **** in em all
Macken and Hume will be on the kind of wages Shepherd wouldn't pay to Kenwynne Jones. Do we get value for money under Davey? I, personally, don't think so.
RE: No, we never get battered 4 - 0 or anything any more. nt Didn't Atkinson play in the 7-0??? You know, the saviour.
I'll give you Hume but after that.............. Macken sometimes but then again Hayes was as least as good on his better days.I'd take Nads over Rigters though and don't see much difference between KO and Wright.
RE: No, we never get battered 4 - 0 or anything any more. nt yeah and he was directly to blame for every single goal as the other ten players were fantastic from what I remember
You're right, we've have some proper hidings under Davey. Boo to Darfield for not being harsh enough on Davey.
Of course we have made Progress.................... Davey saved the team from certain relegation and has managed top keep us up on a shoe string.
That to me is progress, not having to watch an Ale house league on Saturdays.
This league is stronger now than it was in Ritchies day. Every time a Premiership Club brings in a current International someone eventually drops down a level. That process makes the Championship tougher every year. The Championship is now as strong as the top flight in many European Countries.
Ritchie strikers, as Slackbladder says were not up to the job. Just look where the majority of Ritchies squad are playing.
Strikers are hard to find because Premiership Clubs have in many cases 6 or 7 of them. They are no longer scattered around the Divisions like they use to be. In my youth most teams would have a 15-20 goal a season man. Sometimes they would have two.
I was working in Birmingham this week and met up with Villa, West Brom, and Wolves fans. They were all complaining about the lack of quality strikers. The Wolves fans were even critical of Macca.
We do need strikers but where are they? Who can we reasonably afford? We are just a small Provincial Club who survive on some of the smallest attendances in the Championship.
A reality check is needed by many who post on here.

RE: "Certain relegation." Yes dead certs
Ritchie and Holden had lost the plot.
Too busy having farting contests, than coaching the squad.

Squads a lot better now. I wouldn't swap many of AR's for the ones we have now. AR's squad was a long way from a competitive Championship squad, I reckon we would have gone down if we had completed the season as we were. Where those players are playing now backs that up. SD's squad, while far from perfect, is only 3 or 4 players away from being a top half side. We actually have players that other clubs want, players who can fetch a 7 figure sum.
