If I moved to Italy I'd try my best to integrate into the culture but,

I'd still be English, it's what I am.

    Yes of course.

And like Dirk said, at times he "did what he had to do"

Don't twsit what I was saying. I would prefer British history to be taught, but to also be considered from both angles too. That's surely better than being ashamed of it and just not bothering?

There are all manner of reasons why you might move country.

My wife didn't leave the US because she didn't love it, she moved because we got married.
Incidentally.....she's traced part of her ancestry to England in the 1800's and part is German, part Ukranian.

    RE: Yes of course.

I'm not trying to twist anything you're saying. I think there are times whendragging up our past misdemeanours isn't helpful. Our history is important but it isn't always necessary to consider it when discussing contemporary problems. I'm not going to roll over out of some kind of guilt for someone else's actions. Those constantly referring to our imperial history could (but never do) point out that it's cost an awful lot in human terms to make England one of the best and most civilised countries in the world and that'sprecisely the reason we should try to protect what we've created.

Che Guevara and his actions are both part of history. He silenced his political opponents by slaughtering them, how anyone can consider him a hero is beyond me. Cuba is a dictatorship, currently a benevolent one but let's not pretend that Guevera's tactics were a means to a communist end.

Incidentally I admire your conviction that communism can work. I think it's a wonderful concept but one that completely fails to take human nature into account.
