racial tension in tarn ex chronicle

OK Windy mate - I take your point...

A lot of people do have genuine concerns over certain aspects of immigration - the points you make such as screening potential immigrants, people entering this country with the express intention of becoming involved in organised crime etcetera. I'll even go so far as to accept, as an extremely left-wing person myself, that some on the left are very much in denial as to these concerns - things like hate-preachers, criminal gangs and the like - the George Galloways of the world certainly do not speak on my behalf.

However a lot of us on the left have equally legitimate concerns about immigrants being used (as they have historically) as the "whipping-boys" of the right on whom all the blame for societys ills are placed. Whereas some people are genuinely concerned, perhaps due to first hand experience, a lot of people are whipped into hysteria 'cos of some ridiculous fabrication that they have read in The Sun. A case in point is the Muslim bank-account discussion the other week on this very board. What transpired to be a very innocuous concept (a bank account, available to ALL that just happened to comply with Sharia law) was described by some on here as the "thin end of the wedge" and, to listen to some posters, heralded the fall of Western civilization when in fact it wasn't such a big deal.

You're right in your implication that some on the left have to grow up and get real about some racial issues but we're not the ones attacking innocent people (as described in that Chronicle article) because of sensationalist rumours regarding immigration. Furthermore the people carrying out these attacks hold no legitimate concerns whatsoever, they are just thugs.

My concern is that, notwithstanding the issues you've raised, a lot of people in this country are determined to blame immigrants / Muslims / asylum-seekers for anything and everything and are not prepared to look beyond superficial soundbites and find out where the real problems lie - in the grand scale of things immigration is, and always has been, a minor problem if a problem at all. The only time it'd become a HUGE problem is if every immigrants went back to their country of origin 'cos they'd had enough of been blamed for everything - goodbye NHS...

Anyway, I feel better for that and I'm in no way accusing you of scape-goating I'm perhaps trying to explain why us on the left take the bait so easily when it comes to such conversations!

    Oh for ****'s sake.

It was nothing to do with the media, Jane was there with her baby and it was the final straw in a long list of incidents some of which I could tell you about if I thought there was the slightest chance of you admitting to the possibility that there just might be a real race-related problem developing somewhere in the UK.

Isolated incident my arse. Get your head out of your arse man.

    Could you answer my question?

You mentioned a "bloodbath" in the surgery.

So I'll ask again - what happened? Did they stab everyone in the surgery because that's the mental picture that the term "bloodbath" conjures up.

I agree that there is a real race related problem in the country

    Hence racial attacks.

And it is being whipped up by the media and by the BNP.

I agree with most of that.

We need to resist the polarisation of opinion that occurs at times like these, extreme behaviour on both sides of the argument only widens the divide. I believe if the "left," as you say, grows up and admits there are problems regarding immigration the man in the street won't find himself driven by exasperation to such unreasonable behaviour.

I know I'm standing in the middle and saying "you first" but Joe Soap has no structure, the public, being made up of intellectually independent individuals, doesn't make collective decisions so it's up to the left to lead the way.

Of course there'll still be nutters on both sides but the more we can get gathering in the middle and telling it like it is the better.

You say you're "extreme left" but you don't come over that way. I think Karl Marx was a very nice and completely bonkers old chap who had a lovely, well intentioned idea that (as history has proven) displayed a staggering lack of understanding of human nature. In my opinion the extreme left is full circle and almost identical in all but name to the extreme right. You're a lot more reasonable than that. I don't affiliate myself to anyone and agree with both sides (and the greens) on different issues. I call it Mongolism because it's modelled on the way the Mongol Empire dealt with the religions they encountered during their conquests. They took the best bits of them all and disregarded the rest.

So remember, you heard it here first. Vote Mong.

And yet only 400 asylum seekers in town according to that report, and only 300 migrant workers.

I don't know and I'm not sure if they do.

When Jane re-entered the waiting room with her baby everyone was outside and the floor was covered in blood. How many people need to be bleeding to make a bloodbath? Are we really going to hang the debate up on such a ******* stupid question?

RE: I don't know and I'm not sure if they do.

So now it's changed to blood on the floor in a doctors waiting room when she went in. Wouldn't have thought it that unusual to see blood on a doctors waiting room floor.

Bloodbath - 1. a ruthless slaughter of a great number of people; massacre.

Don't worry about "race related attacks" (perpetrated by only by evil caucasians.)

    They're just "isolated incidents."

I know you're well intentioned but the sooner your type realises how much your ******** is helping the BNP gain popularity the better.

    Oh "your type"!

Yes I accept that race related attacks occur from both sides, I realise that there will be a minority of immigrants causing trouble and involved in crime....what I don't accept is the way the media blow things out of proportion and use language that will do nothing but inflame a situation for sensationalism and there are people who seem incapable of reading between the lines when they read the newspapers and that's what worries me.

    Have you any idea..................

......how ******* stupid you look when you do this?

Your pedantry is often funny but you do yourself no favours when you attempt to use it like this. It's just **** mate.

Why do you keep gibbering on about the media?

I'm talking about first hand accounts. I think you need to get out a bit more mate.

    Pedantry?

No that wasn't pedantry - you used a term that conjures up an image, I asked you what happened and then we find that you used a term to exaggerate the situation that did not bare resemblance to what happened.

You illustrated my point about the language used in the media.

If you read a story in the newspaper that mentioned a "bloodbath in a doctors surgery" then what would you imagine? Just some blood on the floor or something akin to Rwanda? My point entirely and not merely pedantry.

RE: Why do you keep gibbering on about the media?

Because the media are responsible for inflaming the situation

    Tell you what mate...........

.....you're absolutely right. We have no idea how many people the Somalis slashed or stabbed in this "isolated incident" to cause the floor to be covered with blood. It may in fact, as you so rightly point out, only have been one person who bled particularly profusely and ran about a lot.

This, of course, completely invalidates my use of the word "bloodbath" as for that word to have been used legitimately we would have to be sure that the blood covering the floor had come from multiple victims.

Obviously, as a consequence of my possible misuse of a word, I must now withdraw from the debate and inform my friends that Eaststander (who reads the papers) says that their experiences are in fact invented by the media in order to exacerbate the real and only problem of Caucasian attacks upon immigrants which are neither made up nor isolated.

Glad we got that sorted out.

    Yes, you're right.

Jane and Martin's experiences are actually a sequence of isolated incidents made up by the media. I'm sure, given the benefit of your wordly wisdom, they'll see there's no need to move.

    "...getting people to integrate"

Well that would be a start!

Trouble is, when the fluffies say that they mean that we the indigenous population should be doing more to integrate with the incomers.

That is what is at the hub of the whole problem IMHO.
