I've no doubt that a lot of commendable work goes on, and I'm certainly not implying that this problem is caused by failures in schools. It's absolutely in the main, the views of parents which are being passed on to the kids. But my point is that doing more at home is not possible when the parents themselves are racist and this is where the whole problem stems from. Thus, schools are the only place we can combat these views, but it seems, in Maltby at least, it isn't working if kids are choosing to echo their parents rather than teachers.

When I say 'sweeping under the carpet', I mean that certain people in schools (and I do have first hand experience of this) believe that racism is no longer a problem, and so efforts don't need to be made to confront it, not that any instances of racist abuse are ignored.

The efforts of people in schools working to eradicate racist views is laudable, and I'm glad to hear that lots goes on, and am thankful to those who are doing this.

.....................'the lads mum told me and I reported it to the officials....... dunno after that.......fek all probably'

And there lies the problem !!!

For once this guy (or is it a girl) posts something of interest

And then reveals in one sentence his/her whole outlook on life

Let me just say this...........if that had happened and I was responsible for the young team, like you say you are, then there would have been holly hell to pay at the highest level of that organisation. I would have taken it to the highest level possible.

I WOULD NOT..........have left it in the care of the match day referee

That's a contradiction - if the other kid's parents haven't educated them then surely it's the parents fault

I am not responsible for the team, I just help out now and again.

But it is a sorry affair I must agree.

That's a really sad story; I hope the poor little lad wasn't too upset and can see it for the Neanderthal behaviour it was. If the game was organised enough to have a referee, then it must be part of a league structure with some kind of governing body, and I'd be contacting them as well as telling the ref. I don't know the details of the law, but I'd be surprised if an organisation didn't have a legal requirement to investigate incidents like this. I retired a couple of years ago after 43 years in classrooms, and believe me, we were as keen as mustard to eradicate this kind of ignorant, pathetic treatment of human beings. The problems lay in the home, not in the schools. We had them for a few hours a day but home had them 365 days a year for 18 hours or so, and that's where they got their views. On the positive side, this kind of behaviour is now widely seen as unacceptable. It will take a long time to eradicate it completely, but it will happen.

So they refused to shake the young lads hand? The strangest part about all of this is that some of their favourite footballers will more than likely be black.

I don't understand racists at all, there used to be this moron sat infront of me who had Campbell-Ryce on the back of his shirt yet when the opponents team had a black player and he went down easy or whatever he would be straight out of his seat shouting the most vile racist abuse you would ever hear.

I assume the game was played in a league governed by the Hallamshire FA. Write to them at; Clegg House, 204 Meadowhall Road, Sheffield S9 1BN. email; info@sheffieldfa.com

    This could help.

    Very sad indeed.
My son also plays under 10s this year.

After reading this I asked him if he had any problems shaking hands with an opponent with different colour skin?
He looked at me gone out! "Don't be daft Dad"

He went on to add his opponents don't usually want to shake his hand after the game as he's kicked them up and down for 40 minutes! :)

What I meant is that kids can be influenced by other kids that haven't been educated . So parents who have tried there best can fail due their kids unfortunately getting involved with the wrong kids

But ultimately it is down to parenting - if your child has those perceptions it is your job to correct them. They spend more time at home than they do in a school
