Racist chanting

The Stewards And Police.......

on saturday were going after the young uns that wouldn't take no arresting. Why didn't they get rid of the grown ups who were chanting?

Ok I shall break it down Cbeebies style. The people getting thrown out were generally young lads who were tanked up. Some of them looked so out of it that they didn't know they were being thrown out. They didn't try and fight back or even hurl abuse to the people escorting them out. Easy for the authority figures to go after those sort of fans hurling racist abuse. I doubt the jobsworths would have been in such a hurry to eject some grown men who would fight back.

Isn't the approach in these situations to film those responsible so they can be identified and arrested later, rather than inflame the situation and potentially turn a non-violent situation into a violent one?

Eaststander...what with you spouting off about racists in a WORLD full of racists wether colour, fat, thin,wearing glasses etc(it's all some form of racism), have you ever done anyting wrong or are you a real goody 2 shoes?

Well, firstly you are responding to a post I made about how the police deal with a situation, I was not "spouting on" about it, just explaining to DB3K why the police may not want to wade in.

Secondly, you may be prepared to tolerate racism, I am not! And no, we don't just "have to accept they exist"

Probably a daft question but why are people who sing songs that draw attention to someone's nationality or race labelled as 'scum' whereas those people are free to chant that an overweight guy banging a drum is a 'fat b*stard' and not be labelled in a similar way? Is it because fat guys are considered less sensitive to verbal abuse and therefore fair game? Or is it that the critics, being far too busy jumping onto the 'racist scum' bandwagon, haven't thought it through? Is it okay to label an overweight guy from Pakistan a 'fat b*stard' or is that racist? Help me out, guys, I'm lost.

Personally, I think that a lot of people love to hear racist chants as it provides them with someone to hate and to brand as scum (which is kind of ironic when you think about it). If there had been no racist chants they would have had a go at those who verbally abused the fat guy with the drum.

The racist chanting made me embarassed and it looks like it did for a fair others too. It's made me think twice about going to an away match again.

As for the big fella with the drum... stripped to the waste and wearing shorts on a cold day... Spending more time gesturing with his tits and belly ant the away supporters. and banging a big bloody drum occasionally... Makes you think he might actually enjoy the attention he gets and probably why he does it.

 

Sorry to prolong this subject but I think it's an important one not just in terms of racial chants but of fans' behaviour in general. My last point wasn't taken too seriously so let me present it another way. Imagine a PC rushed in to the Barnsley fans intending to throw out a fan because he believed he had heard him chant 'You bl*ck b*stard'. Before he has chance to do so, his colleagues assure him he was in fact chanting 'You fat b*stard'.
What does he do now? Does he throw him out anyway? If so, then he will have to eject about 25% of the fans, which really isn't feasible. If not, the implication is that blacks, pakistanis or other racial/national groups should receive protection from ridicule and verbal abuse whereas fat people shouldn't.
It really has nothing to do with whether the drummer was 'enjoying the attention' (maybe he was). The point is that there might have been other fat people at the game extremely sensitive to such chanting. The same applies to chants about anorexic people, short people, tall people, etc. Why is one category given protection rather than another?
