So Christmas wasn't "banned"

The activities celebrating Christmas were renamed and in the other instance staff were asked to be respectful to members of another religion. Not exactly banning Christmas and supporting Ramadan is it?

And how many councils have "banned" the cross of St George?

    RE: So Christmas wasn't "banned"

And why be so literal? We both know you cant ban Xmas but there are examples of the word being banned, lights being banned, cards being banned. Did you bother to read either article?

Got nothing against waving flags myself but

The problem is that groups like the BNP and NF have co-opted patriotism and all that goes with it for their own purposes. They are nothing to do with patriotism. But now, people often see the St George cross, and the association with racism then sometimes comes to mind. Its the far right's own fault that some people struggle with disconnecting flag waving from racism. They created the association to start with.

Can't see the point myself, but get yer flags out and wave 'em if you want, nothing wrong with it.

When I see the cross of St George I think of

England sports teams and not with any racist undertones.

I feel the Union flag is more identified with racists.

    Just my view.

I don't know about EVERY case

but in every one i've ever heard about it has turned out to be made up or deliberately taken as racist to sell newspapers.

Take for example the one last year where they had banned christmas and changed it to winter lights, it actually turned out that what they had done is named about 3 months of festivals 'winter lights' and one part of these festivals was called christmas. In fact the first sentance in the winter lights brochure and on their website included the word christmas and the main event of the winter was the switching on of the CHRISTMAS lights.

Another example saw ONE person decide that christmas shouldnt be used (i cant remember where) and this decision was overruled as soon as their boss and indeed anyone else found out about it yet the papers still decided to run with the story and claim it was banned. In actual fact it wasn't it had just been suggested by a jobsworth.

Yet another example is of christmas lights being banned because they might offend other religions. It turned out that the council simply couldnt afford the necessary repairs to the existing lights so had scrapped them for financial reasons.

The problem with racism in this country is that our media are trying to cause it in order to sell newspapers or get viewers. This in turn is driving voters straight into the hands of the BNP.

Any paper publishing a false story should be fined HUGE sums of money.

nothing wrong with being proud to be English. Read the post. Patriotism is fine and dandy.

Nope. But the SNP and BNP are entirely different kettles of fish.

The SNP are not a fascist, racist party. The BNP are.

Lets not get into another boring BNP discussion again tho eh.
