From that interview it felt like he was gearing the fanbase up for a drop in expectation levels "There will be a budget impact to the budget, not because we've sacked head coaches, but the macro environment of clubs allowed to spend what they want" "We will have to go back to the model most clubs in L1 have and sell players" "That said when we sell a player there will be reinvestment back into the squad" "We are going to be realistic, live within our means, but still make a push to the championship" I'm looking at L2 thinking potentially stronger teams replacing the bottom 4 in L1 with decent head coaches, strong division again next year.
The boards supporters don't want to hear that. I've been saying it for months it's ok saying let's be grateful that they are pumping money into the club but the problems with them doing so are 1 the money is going into covering up loses caused by their running of the club it's not being used to drive the club forward. 2 the board aren't rich enough to pump that kind of money in long term so what happens when the decide enough is enough. 3 they aren't making the changes required to turn things round and are stubbornly carrying on regardless of the evidence in front of them. 4 they don't appear to be seeking to sell the club or bring in new investors to cover the loses long term..
I don't know, not sure how relevant that is or what he's worth. He's putting his own money in, If I was loaded I'd be thinking twice about spanking 8 million a year on a football club where fans are singing about me been a greedy ******* etc
If they are looking at stopping putting the money in then it would be in theirs and everyone’s interest to be looking at either selling or attracting investors. Attracting more investors seems to be the way more clubs are going as opposed to complete buy outs. The likes of us would not know about it if they were actively looking until it got a lot closer.
Me too. But I sometimes think they overlook the fact that we are putting money in too. For very little return at the moment.
In some ways the pumping in of money and saying ultimately its all going on squad building is a red herring. It diverts attention away from fundamental failures
Translated: We've ****** up on the last two appointments and this has cost us thousands, our recruitments also been **** so we've had to slash the budget. So don't moan at the next forum you should be grateful we are here.
We’re dealing with clubs who are willing to burn unlimited amounts of money. There is only so long I agree to fund millions and millions out of my own pocket. Realism is probably something we need. We have to be pragmatic. We want to get back to the Championship but I don’t want any fan to buy as season ticket thinking we’re going to invest a crazy amount – ten million or 20 million pounds. I really don’t know what to make of this. Does he really think opinions on Facebook and X are representative of the wider fanbase? Of course we know there are clubs we can’t compete with financially, although ‘unlimited amounts of money’ is a stretch, and the top half of the table isn’t full of them. No one buys a ST expecting the club to spend £10-20m. The ‘funding millions out of my own pocket’ bit is a strange one. Is he having a go at his fellow owners? Does he want the fans to chip in more? Does he realise that fans have paid for STs but aren’t attending. He bought into a football club. What did he expect would happen?
Apologies if this question has been asked of you before - do the club take note of 'actual' attendance as opposed to total tickets sold ie physical bums on seat?
Obviously, for health and safety reasons (should there be an evacuation needed and so on) each person attending is counted. So yeah, they’ll know how many tickets were sold, and how many actually attended. So will therefore know the amount that haven’t shown up. FTR, I’m watching from home. But on TV it looks like 5,000 tops. I can’t see the West Stand, naturally.
Ta for that much appreciated. I'd post a photo of the west stand for you but I don't know how to link it!
I feel for those in the lower tier right now. It looks like monsoon season! I hope it rains goals for the Reds…
Neerav's just put his Xbox controller down, punched the air and shouted "we've **** em with those stats"
