Sorry about the use of the word amateur, it's nothing to do with your quality (i hardly ever listen to you to be fair due to not being able to pick up a signal outside the carpark), I was just stating a fact that regardless of anything else, you guys are amateurs that are presenting as a hobby (for want of a better word) and barnsley fans have to pay for this privalage whilst the rest of the football world gets professionals for free.

And I cant remember the last time radio sheffield only covered 3 barnsley games, certainly not in the last 10 years anyway.

Personally I feel you're being too sensitive

But you're not alone in that. There's a lot on here who are far too precious when it comes to Barnsley and can't take a joke or take any criticism about the town.

What was said on Radio Sheffield is obviously untrue, so I'm at a loss as to why it should bother anyone.

I know mate. But, if the commentary is of a good standard, then it shouldn't matter whether it's being provided by professionals or amateurs - being Barnsley fans has got to be a big advantage anyway, both knowledge and research wise, the delivery improves with experience. The thing we all agree on is that it should be free to radio and internet listeners every game, home & away.

    At a guess

I'd say I usually listen to about a dozen away match commentaries every season on Radio Sheffield. This season, of course, I haven't listened to any.

It certainly should be free. I wonder whether it would ever be possible to get 1575 onto a FM band, that would be great even if unlikely.

One day Dearne FM will follow up on it's pre launch promises of providing barnsley commentary.

    Do you really think so?

One of the biggest industries in the world is advertising. Billions are spent on it every year. Just about every successful business in the world spends money on it. Had we not fallen out with Radio Sheffield we wouldn't have had to pay for advertisements, they would actually be paying us! Interviews with the chairman, manager and players, behind the scenes reports and match commentaries would all have been beamed out to the local population selling them Barnsley FC. I find it astonishing that some people don't understand the importance of such coverage.

RE: "you're a buffoon" and you talk about irony

You never did quite explain when Oakwell and Stoneage Red were polluting the board with racist and pro BNP statements why, given the context of the board at the time you chose to tell us that your Polish tenants said that you were a better landlord than the "pakis" ?

What say you, without irony now ?

    Yes

Some of their employees attempt to belittle us at every opportunity. We have never been treated fairly by them.

I doubt we have lost financially at all from their absence.

The amount they pay us is pathetic in any case.

My gripe is not what's said.. it's how it's managed/run on air

it's a fact that certain club's fans can say things without being 'challenged' by the station producers. Don't they realise that they're making a mockery of the show by either giving full airtime to this Tit for tat playground-type name calling, or by not counter-acting a callers statements etc. for eg, a Blade called the other day, said they were as many of them as us. Now, had I been the presenter, I would have suggested to him that he needs to brush up on his maths, approx 5,300 Blades in a crowd of 15000 simply doesn't add up. Childish argument yes, But in order to have an adult talk/debate radio show these things should be highlighted by the presenters in order to stop these type of comments.

My point exactly - it's the standard of broadcasting that worries me. This is supposed to be the BBC after all! People talk about dumbing down but this lot take the biscuit! Trouble is the presenters aren't that bright, especially Andy Giddins, who I don't think even realised that "Jud from Barnsley" was actually a Blade taking the p*ss...

I'm afraid that I strongly disagree with what you have said in that email.

If a caller makes anti Barnsley comments that are so far out that they are just laughable, such as suggesting that we are staring in awe at a wheel then the only loser is the individual who is making himself look like a ****.

You reckon the station is anti Barnsley - I just can't see how that argument stacks up - they tried every angle to persuade the club to see sense when they turned down the national rate that every other club gets without going out of their way to belittle the club for doing so.

They still provide what information they can about the club with no assistance from the club being given directly

As suggested by others, the lack of information about the club seriously damages it - it is free advertising. Don't just focus on the money that we lose directly from the BBC for the lack of coverage - how many extra people may have been at the Sheff Utd game for example if the club had been bigging it up on air all week, and information was forthcoming, in interviews, about the importance of the game etc etc. At the very least more people may have realised it was all ticket. Other businesses pay vast amounts of money to get their name mentioned on radio for 20 seconds at a time in a naff song in an advert - we discourage the offer of hours of coverage of our club - in my opinion we should allow Radio Sheffield access to the club for nowt - what skin is it off the club's nose to do so?

To suggest that we should consider the continuation of the stance that we have with the station next season because someone said something nasty about the town and was not told off is plain ridiculous. I would hope that our chairman would be a little more adult than that.

For what it is worth, as someone who travels the whole country for a living, it annoys me when people make derogatory comments about where I live out of sheer ignorance of having never been to Yorkshire, but those comments are usually about the North generally (eh, ba gum etc etc), not Barnsley specifically. Surely the listeners of a local northern radio station, who have heard all such **** before, can take those comments for the garbage that they were without someone having to defend the town on out behalf. Stop being so precious.
