RE: I didn't know he was from Barnsley .... Why does growing up in Barnsley with a bit of colour in your skin mean you have to be brash & self confident?
RE: I didn't know he was from Barnsley .... because loads of people round here are ignorant barstewards!! Being a Pakistani is a good enough excuse to bully somebody when you're an ignorant kid. Bearing in mind when I was at school we didn't have any ethnic minorities in our year not sure if there was any in the school. Kids basically bully people for being different eg ginger, spotty, tall, thin, big ears foreign. In Barnsley there are not many Pakistanis and so this might mean you would get bullied for being foreign. Especially bearing in mind the tensions with the muslims in the world. So what he is saying is if you are not going to be bullied in that kind of environment you need to be confident!
RE: I didn't know he was from Barnsley .... but great that he is and may play for Yorkshire for seasons and seasons
RE: I didn't know he was from Barnsley .... I remember when you had to been born in Yorkshire to play for Yorkshire.
Though Yorkshire are obviously at fault... It makes me sick how all these counties such as Northants play about 7 South Africans, yet we play just one, and a young up and coming lad who's never even played a first class game before and could get chucked out. Yes I know it's different but it makes me angry. De-register Rana Naved? He'd been injured for months anyway, so we've not even had an overseas player. It seems it's just down to the fact he hasn't got a British passport, as he easily qualifies on residency grounds. Load of cack, if we get chucked out for this it stinks. In my opinion.
RE: Though Yorkshire are obviously at fault... I agree. The game against Notts should be played again. Just seen on SSN though that Durham reckon they should just get a bye. Time is the problem now though.
RE: Though Yorkshire are obviously at fault... Haven't read all of the thread but totally agree with you Journo Tyke For christ's sake we should be encouraging and making it easy for young english players to be blooded - not subjecting them to the same ludicrous bureaucracy that has to be in place because weak english county cricket has become the bitch of third rate South African / Kolpak mercenaries. The other thing I thought was scandalous was the Sky Sports (Lancashire) pundits saying that in other sports the precedent is docking of points - wrong, in each of the last three eligibility cases in peer sports (football and RL), Leeds, Sheff Wed and Hull KR, there has been fines and no deduction of points. The guy playing did not influence the result, Nottinghamshire were comprehensively whupped and the proportionate punishment is a fine for poor/lax/shambolical adminstration by the Yorkshire club. The ECB shouldn't be punishing the player, the team or the fans (speaking as someone who was there last night and whose main gripe is that Yorkshire having co-operated fully once the error was picked up, the ECB couldn't be fecked to get their lawyers out of bed or off the golf course at the weekend to get to the point they then took until 2.45pm yesterday afternoon to get to, meanwhile muggins had driven 300 miles :'( )
