Probably my favourite modern rap/hip-hop tune.

What I don't get is how it is generally classified as "music". It's a load of old crap as far as I am concerned. Each to their own, I suppose.

Yeah... It's not for everyone and there is lots that is cRap... But there are some very clever, well written and incredibly poetic rap songs if you take the time to look for them. There are musical genres that don't do much for me but I can still respect the artistry in them.

Like others say, the old stuff is the best

How anyone can dismiss an entire genre as crap, is beyond me. There are some true poets in rap music

If it's poetry, it's poetry. If it's music, it's music i.e. it has some sort of melody. Rap "music" is the spoken word accompanied by a beat, as far as I can work out. It's all a load of crap when it's classified as "music" as far as I'm concerned. Just my opinion...and I'm sticking to it ;-)

What about hip-hop then? Still not music? How musical does the beat have to be before it can be called music?

There's no logic behind that and it can be easily demonstrated that it's not true. How many times have we heard singers (especially in the early 90s) come out with excruciating raps in the middle of their songs? Successful rapping is a talent based on nature (voice) and nurture (practice of rhythms and appreciation of styles and conventions).
