You did indeed, sir And, if it's not too personal, I hope you've enjoyed a pain free Christmas this year, mate.
Re: I thought Hassell played well 1 holding player (Hassell), 1 wide player who can track back and defend (O'Brien), 2 attacking midfield players who can either score or create (McCourt, Mellis). No point in farting about with defensive midfield set-ups. Even if we kept a clean sheet for all of the remaining matches we'd still go down unless we scored some. It's been proven beyond all doubt that playing defensive achieves absolutely nothing, since we lose most matches playing like that and draw the odd one. We may as well attack and go down fighting.
Re: I thought Hassell played well I still think 3-5-2 is our strongest formation. 4-1-3-2 might give us half a chance. I also still think 4-4-2 will send us down, and 4-1-4-1 probably will as well.
Re: I thought Hassell played well I agree with 3-5-2 but to play like that we need to get RNL back or someone else in, and not sure about the right wing back either. I don't think it's possible with the current squad. Whatever formation we play we need to attack more and stop trying to defend from the kick off. If we want to play 3 defensive midfielders out of 4, as yesterday, at least let's try and get a goal or two up first then shut up shop. We should be playing Paddy and Mellis from the start (yes I know he was suspended yesterday) then taking them off later, not the other way round.
Oh Dawson played the second half did he? I thought he'd been subbed at half time as he did nowt for the next 45. Even in the first half his best contribution (the running out and blocking the ball) only came about after he lazely/stupidly stood watching instead of closing a player down. He only ran out to make the block after a bollocking from Bobby who told him to run out and charge it down
Re: I thought Hassell played well 352 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO It doesn't work. We don't have to play anything. I think you need to have a look through our defense record. We've conceded 10 Goals in 10 games. Thats quite good. We've scored 5 in 10 games. I just don't understand why theres this obsession with the defence. We are NOT winning games because we aren't scoring. That simple. The only time we've scored 2 in the last 10 games was with a 4231 formation away at Brighton.
Re: I thought Hassell played well Strange to have bobby in a holding position , and two defensive midfielders at side of bobby . We will at least have more options Sunday with mellis back though. We could with 3 Bobby's in team at moment though to cover all positions where we are dodgy
Re: I thought Hassell played well "We are not winning games because we aren't scoring". I agree. That's why I'm saying we should attack and stop flooding midfield with defensive midfield players. It's like pouring treacle into the finest Swiss precision watch mechanism. Anyway I think we should play 352 and I'm not changing my mind. I would play Bobby as sweeper in that system and get 2 new wing backs in in January. I know you don't agree so I'm now off to the pub.
Re: I thought Hassell played well There you go Stahlrost you offered an opinion that he asked for, then he stomps his feet and says everyone is wrong, i can see where this is going, i'm opening some wine and just observing from now, good luck.
Re: I thought Hassell played well You want us to score more but you are advocating a system with 7 players that are going to have to think about play without the ball. We do need to score and we do need more attacking players, maybe stretch the pitch and have two midfielders that can pick passes.
Re: I thought Hassell played well I'm off to the pub. probably for the old 3-5-2 formation. 3 beers, 5 red wines and 2 shots. Works for me.
As for 352 not working Hull City played that formation last season and won promotion with it. This season, they're playing the same formation and, so far, are comfortably holding their own in the Premier League. In other words, I agree.
Re: As for 352 not working There first game playing it was the Liverpool game BigLil so they haven't played it much.
Wrong They played it for the vast majority last season and have played it all this season, too. Their signings in the Summer were brought in specifically to operate in that particular system. There's an old saying which goes "Don't try to teach your Grandmother how to suck eggs".
Bobby's been immense since Danny took over and will only get better as he gets back to match fitness. His range of passing in the first half was impressive and at some point he had the back of every Reds defender. Whether you like him or not, Bobby will be pivotal to whether we survive or not. Wilson is savvy and mature enough to see that, unlike the Rochdale duo. It will be interesting to see what happens to the captaincy now Luke is back. For me it's obvious who Danny sees as his Captain.
