Warwick Davis and Brad Williams. Two who can play either side of Chaplin to feast off his knockdowns up front.
Walton J William Halme Bambo B Williams Thomas Styles Palmer Oduor Simeos Chaplin Collins Anderson Wolfe Green Miller Sibbick Schmidt No signings needed, these will be more than good enough to cjallenge league 1 and financially secure following sales of Mowatt, Woodrow, Brown, Solbaure, Mcgeehan, Ritzmaire, Bahre. I wouldnt mind watching that team if in league 1.
I genuinely don't know what to expect from our current squad if we are relegated, a season of struggle perhaps leaves me pessimistic by default. I'm not optimistic about an instant return again. I have to be honest that I felt exactly the same after our last relegation season. How many of us honestly expected Mowatt, Potts and McGeehan to dominate opposition midfields and create chances like they did given how they had performed in the Championship, how many of us honestly thought the defence and goalkeeper would be as mean as they were after what we'd seen in the Championship previously? What we did have though were goals from our strikers - Moore and initially Bradshaw were proven at League 1 level, and then Woodrow came in, adequately replacing Bradshaw. Its been a baptism of fire for a lot of our players at this level, there is no hiding place. But I was thinking the same 2 years ago. Whilst nothing is guaranteed, if we lose Woodrow or Chaplin, who have a track record at League 1 level, then we need to replace their goals as a priority. Who would replace them? In truth, I've not given a serious moments thought to football for weeks.
You might as well draw up a list of supermodels you’d like to sleep with - it would have more chance of coming true. The only thing we can say for certain is that we won’t be signing anyone you’ve ever heard of.
Palmer did well when he came in and people have been crying out for Styles to start. I thought it was a decent post and the likeliest starting line up next season.
I thought it was short sighted letting him leave in the first place. Another academy graduate that was no worse than what we had but didn't get a proper chance. I felt sorry for Matty Templeton too.
I’m assuming we’ll be in League One. If so, then the scouting team won’t look much further than the non-league tab on the spreadsheet
The following have caught my eye during the play-offs and season and all fit our recruitment philosophy: Marcus Forss (striker 21 - Brentford on loan at AFC Wimbledon - good striker if Woodrow goes - impressive scoring record at AFCW) Tyler Walker (striker 23 - Nottingham Forest - although young, he now has an impressive 1 in 2 scoring record over two past seasons so he would cost a fair bit and has been in and out of Forest's first team since returning from Lincoln City - would be my top tout, but might be beyond what we are willing to pay - however, if we were to get good money for Woodrow, Tyler would be my number one reinvestment - definitiely already proven and still young) Randell Williams (23 - attacking midfielder/wide player - he did us at Wycombe when on loan there and looks to have skill and trickery to unlock defences, especially from wide positions and to score the occasional goal - well above League Two level and should blossom in League One) Fred Onyedinma (23 - attacking midfield/wide player - can't believe he is still only 23, but has good experience with Millwall and Wycombe - no chance if Wycome get promoted to the Championship, but if they don't it would be either him, or Williams if we are after a wide attacking midfielder who can score goals) Courtney Senior (23 - attacking midfield/wide player - seems to have been a bit-part player with Colchester, but his pace and drive didn't half change the Exeter game - he would be not expensive, as he is barely established in the Colchester side, but looks to have potential - very similar qualities to Luke Thomas, so maybe we don't need a replica) Nnandi Ofobohr (20 - defensive midfielder - if we want someone to sit in front of the back four and be a play-maker from there, this young Bournemouth player has the potential - the board were talking about the physicality of our players and he would fit the bill for a muscular player who would battle for every ball and has good mobility and an eye for a pass) Cohen Bramall (24 - left back/wing back - probably better as a wing back, although very similar in potential to Oduor, so maybe we don't need another replica - amazing pace and drive and good crossing quality, which matters so much from full back, especially if playing wing-backs - I am less convinced as to his defensive qualities, but forward drive at pace down the left and making things happen, he is a winner all the way) There will be others, but at least these aren't 'pigs in a poke' from some foreign leagues. They are used to the English style game and look to me as though they could well step up. Most should be within our price bracket and also fit our recruitment policy. Scouting for free - c'mon. Got to be worth it. Will the board risk any of these, especially if we are relegated and we have both leavers and incomers over the close season?
The transfer market will be very stagnant. I’d be surprised if we were able to move players on or sign them given the uncertainties certainly no more than 1/2 there won’t b much money outside the Premier League.
That's why I'm not as co cksure that we'll lose Mowatt, Woodrow, Chaplin, Brown etc. There won't be a market and the bids would still have to be enough to keep the club ticking over. We lose £7 million with relegation so those players will have to rake in that amount or they won't be going anywhere. Even with these money grabbers in charge.
If we were still in the championship and Wigan are relegated.. Morsy definitely realistic. Same with Souttar at Fleetwood. Wigan would have to presumably have a fire sale which was my thinking on Morsy. But we need someone who can control the midfield.
