That's how I see it to be fair. It should set us up for continued improvement and lead to long term competitiveness at upper Champ level, with periodic forays into the top flight.
It’s quite simple why Sheffield United have struggled this season.. lack of goals that’s it because they have been in all games I’ve seen them in, I can’t remember many teams blowing them away.. the recruitment was terrible who ever signed off on paying £24 million for Brewster wants the boot mcburnie as much as we loved him here is not premier league level and certainly not very good at international level.. so that upfront is where they’ve been found in my opinion.
I understand your fear of the unknown mate and you're not alone in thinking we'd struggle. There's plenty on here been saying the same and I know deep down that we would struggle to survive, even after giving Chelsea (Champions League Semi finalists) a good game for 90 minutes. However, for now, I'm just enjoying the ride on a fantastic season with a brilliant Head Coach and see where we end up. This is after being 1 minute away from League 1 football last July. Focus on the positives not the negatives. My glass is half full
thought this was advice to prospective suitors , I know I am so uncouth,I blame Sid James ha ha haaaaaaaaaa
One thing we'd need is more pace if we went up. Playing that high press is going to be very hard against teams dropping balls over the top with pacey strikers.
I think if the same team played in the same style we would find it hard too. We’re not clinical enough with our attacking play and the quality of the players against would find their way round the press. I also think Collins would get found out playing the sweeper role so far of his line. That said we would give it a good go, pick a few points up and then you never know and with a couple of astute signings and tweaks it could happen. None of this is beyond what the Club,Val and team are capable of.
Would anyone actually be heartbroken if we were to manage the one season in the prem? I for one wouldn’t it would sort us right out financially and as much as I love sitting in the west stand it would be nice to see it improved. I think a season up there to get the finances we’d need to have a go at promotion the season after then I think we’d be much more equipped to have a go in the prem than we currently are. Also I look at clubs like Burnley and I for one don’t envy their position it just grow tiresome being cannon fodder and just making up the numbers every season we’ve made far more memories in the last 4/5 seasons than they have
I'd absolutely love it if we were promoted. The club would be set up financially for a considerable time allowing us to stick to the plan but with a higher level of investment but first and foremost our beloved tarn, our Barnsley, would benefit greatly from the publicity and the additional footfall week in week out. Come on Val and the boys, make i
Or we'll be sold at a huge profit for our current owners with the deal financed by loans, using the value of Sky and EPL contracts as collateral, instantly plunging the club into huge debt. Money will be thrown at the team in a futile attempt to bridge the insurmountable gap in quality. We'll be relegated anyway and liquidated within two years.
I don’t want to agree with this, but I absolutely do. We are owned by investors, getting to the Prem will have always been the aim to get the best return on their investment. I worry that the long term plan isn’t to take us to the next level, ie established Premiership club, but to get us there, reap the financial benefits, then sell us out. I really hope I am wrong, and Jay is, but for this reason, I am apprehensive about possible promotion.
I'm genuinely not that bothered about getting promoted. obviously it could transform us financially, but who knows what the owners' intent would be, if we did do it? I can't see many of our current squad being competitive in the PL, and I personally think our current style of play would get crucified. it's just nice to be in the hat and a phenomenal achievement finishing as a top 6 side.
If we aren’t trying to get promoted then what is the point of competing? And yes, we’ll probably get gubbed week in, week out.
I’m not saying it won’t be a struggle but desire , fitness and our style of play will upset some in the Premiership, I think there will be three clubs we can finish above
That’s my take. If we go up. Carry on with the plan but target at Brentford level rather than ours. Expect relegation and look to invest in the ground ( if the ownership issue can be sorted).
