Patience is a virtue. The path we've gone down (again rightly or wrongly) requires patience & bottle. Seems that in recent years our fans have lost theirs. We're doing this the right way, it's the hard way so when we get to the play offs it'll be f.cking glorious.
Maybe those players would have 'developed' under any manager? There are plenty of players hill has signed who have shown no improvement too. Too simple to just say hill developed them or vice versa. Most of them improve by playing and maturing.
During the meeting with Don Rowing it became clear that his remit is not to develop players and sell them on. If he does that then all well and good, but that wasn't why we brought him in as manager and that isn't what he is expected to do. His remit is to get good results. Or reasonable ones, I don't think the board expect promotion. He was brought in because he got good results with Rochdale and he believed he could do the same with us on the budget we were offering. Selling players at a profit was not what attracted us to him and it is not what he is expected to do. That's what we have assumed on here. The board believed he was a good manager that could win games.
Maybe, but then he can't win. Seems there's a feeling that they improve despite him and don't because of him. Reighto.
That's not what I said. Read my post again, particularly the vice versa bit. Was just saying its a bit giddy to put all a players development down to the manager, which is what some are doing. Reighto.
Each players different but either way, either the manager gets credit for developing and coaching or bringing them in. They've worked with too many good players who have gone up the leagues for it to be coincidental for me like Dawson, Murray, Buckley & Le Fondre.
No, but that will be more to do with the fact that people have better things to do at 7:15pm on a Saturday night than stand around in the cold behind the stand shouting 'Hill out' and 'sack the board'. I think the tide is turning against Hill, and the fans overall have been more patient with Hill than with any other manager in my living memory, considering the results we have had in 2012, but we can't go on losing, and drawing the odd game here and there, without something has to change. The fact is that at the moment we are heading to League 1, no doubt about it in my opinion, and we would have already been there but for Pompey's points deduction last season, so as far as I can see, if Hill can't halt the slide, then someone else will be brought in to see if they can turn things around, and that has to happen before it's too late.
There were a lot of pro - Hassell chanting going on at Watford. No anti-Hill chants, just a couple of random Hill-out opinions voiced loud.
Might be what's needed -- Remember Donny (4-1)? 1-0 down, a man sent off, and the " We want Davey out!" chants started. Don't know if that had an effect, but we tore them apart from then on!!
Was it not from said by Cryne himself the 'saleable assets versus expenses loanees' change of strategy? Admitedly I have no link to fall back, just an extremely hazy memory.
"Over the past few weeks the media coverage received by Barnsley FC has been focused on supposed budgetary cuts and the resultant fall-out from those. This assessment oversimplifies and therefore misrepresents matters necessitating this statement to set the record straight for the benefit of our fans. "It is Einstein's definition of madness to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the outcome to be different. The board believes that it is time to be more radical and do things differently, hence the review under way. "Some aspects of the change of direction being proposed have been announced to fans, for example, basing the future of the club on quality recruitment and the intensive development of our standout youth talent. This does not mean an end to loan signings but it does mean they will take a lower priority within our squad structure. "We need to create value within our squad, not to sell players, but to enjoy more success for our team, our sponsors and, most of all, our fans. In selecting a new manager, we need to take care to select someone who fits with the strategy we feel best suits Barnsley FC going forward." http://www.football-league.co.uk/ch.../cryne-reveals-radical-reform_2293322_2363653
This one should be branded 'El sackio'. Not that Hill would go if we lost, Jones on the other hand.....
That pretty much says we don't intend to sell players, but to recruit better players to win more games.
You're right. But we know that if we don't sell players the budget drops. So it's a viscous circle. The interesting bit for me is the change of strategy to "quality recruitment and the intensive development of our standout youth talent" and the manager should fit that strategy.
