Sheron was a mistake, billed as ‘a proven goalscorer’ he was underwhelming from the start, well remember him getting loads of flak about his wages from tarn fans away at Chesterfield. He just looked back and grinned, cant remember how much a week he was in but it was a big number fir us even back then, and he was in the bench. Also remember getting splinters in my ar$e that day from the old wooden benches. Spent the night out in Chesterfield and game across a minibus full of dwarves fighting with each other outside a carpet shop. Weird.
Why would we need to spend £2m on a new striker? Our 2 have just nearly got 40 between them last season (with 3 months out each). I understand getting a third or even fourth striker in as back ups/rotations but we wouldn't spend nearly £2m on that.
The 2001/2 was my first season going regularly as I was using my EMA to attend matches. I didn't go to any away matches that year but I only saw us lose to Birmingham. The other matches I went to he managed to get on the score sheet and scored some good goals and linked up well with Bruce Dyer. When he was out of the side we didn't seem to win many. That season we drew at home with Sheff Utd and Richard Naylor was as much use as a chocolate fireguard. My dad never liked Sheron either.
Absolutely no chance Barnsley will spend that kind of money. Highly rated lower league player's is the Barnsley formula I'm afraid.
Probably so. I'm struggling to find players better than what we have already in the lower leagues. There was a good crop for a couple of years when we signed Hourihane, Scowen, Winnall, Mawson, Roberts and Watkins. There was Dack at Gillingham and Moncur who we signed from Colchester and Bradsaw from Walsall and it seems to have dried up since. Maddison has always been a player I've looked at and thought he'd really add something. He's probably the last out of that bunch.
They were a good crop after the event. Had we been trickle fed the names beforehand the response would most likely have been NO or WHO. The skill is selecting and proving your judgement was right.
I don’t know. Did anyone think Woodrow would be as good as he was. If your gonna think like that. Moore was no good in championship last time. Woodrow unproven in champ, so we need 3 strikers now
Good point - I have completely forgotten his name but presumably he will be backup for Moore and Woodrow -Unproven though and need another one as well though as I think Victor isn't Championship ready and I expect he will be loaned out probably to a L2 side at least for the first half of next season
We need a championship quality striker without a doubt. £2m umm doubt we'll pay that but I'd rather spend on wages than transfer fee. Then think we will go for prem reserve with championships experience. In management and scouts plus the spreadsheet I trust. Well we can't do anything else.
Paul Conway said on the Tykes tv interview that they tried to sign a few German players last summer but couldn't them over the line. May-be we'll be looking in that direction again now we're in a higher division.
Did.i think Woodrow would cut it in this division? Yes. Had higher than league.1 experience. Moore was always.going to be a goal threat. George Miller struggled to.even get into the Bradford squad at times..I still cannot see why we signed him. Victor found league 1 difficult.
