But didn't Clarke ask for a specific type of player. To us fans a Rhodes or a Collins might come to mind but Clarke asked for a different type so whether we like it or not the player identified as the attributes Clarke wanted.Like TN said its not a straightforward task.
I believe Clarke asked for a physical target man that could run in behind, how did we end up with Rodrigues then and Clarke on zoom calls?
Maybe he didn't only ask for the physical target man but what we got was all we could get through the door in time. What I find confusing is that Clarke talks about a recruitment TEAM as though he he is not part of it but from my point of view he is a component part.
He most definitely seemed to distance himself from the Rodrigues signing, I'm inclined to think he didn't have input on that particular deal, but you are correct in he has been involved in some capacity on previous recruitment.
he also did it about the zoom meeting one too. He said a line about being a player that the recruitment team had found.
Why do you always try to correct stuff I say as if I make things up? I quoted physical target man who could get in behind, that's exactly what was communicated.
Pretty much what I heard.Although that discription could fit a multitude of players.I always took players who can get behind are more of a Keeler Dunn than a Cosgrove type .But if Clarke was happy who are we to judge.I normally find what the coach wants and what the fans want are poles apart. Thanks for posting that clip by the way.
That's the baffling part of that statement, Rodrigues doesn't appear to be of a physical target man type, he's predominantly played wide either left or right of a front three, think were both in a agreement that he's got pace to play off the shoulder and get in behind no question, obviously far too early but based on career to date agree with you doesn't fit the target man mould.
What I would say is that in the 45 minutes I’ve seen of him he received the ball well (the couple of times we got it to him) and brought one of the midfielders into play with a simple pass before turning and making a run to space. I suppose although Target Man implies a big hulking battering ram who scores with his head, it could be argued that it also means receiving the ball and doing something productive with it, like laying it off for DKD/Phillips/Russell to have a crack. We might know more on Saturday!
Just seen the top part of your reply.I didn't in any way try to undermine your post, apologise if it came over that way.
Think end of season will have given us time to make a fair judgement on what he's like, I get what you are saying regards target man etc, the only thing to add to that though is term "physically really good" could be defined in different ways but physically and target man in the same sentence does make you think of the typical mould.
And likewise apologies if I came across sharp, I'm a little grumpy today as feeling under the whether.
