It is a little disappointing to see young kids be so heavily critisized. There is some really good talent there and we need to support them not slaughter them I dont think he is being critical of the kids but how they are being taught and how to play If you are at all games lets have your report to compare also give us a profile of all the players and your opinion of them i am sure being a jurno it should be quite good and totally unbiased
I think you're barking up the wrong tree.
I think it's very clear to anyone who reads Red Rain's reports objectively that he doesn't decry the lads' efforts at all, but rather the coaching - and having watched them myself I agree with him.
On the other hand, on the one occasion I read your paper I found it to be bland and somewhat sycophantic. You can call it optimism if you like - I prefer not to.

I have been to quite a few Academy matches over the last 3 or so years The set up down there is strange. We always seem to have 1st year kids against the older more experienced 2nd year lads and it shows. Not only in the scores and results but in their physical stature. The coaching at Barnsley seems a bit slapdash, what they want them to do. There is a young 16 year old there now , I have watched him playing football since he was 9 years old(same junior side as my son) and he always has played with a smile and looking like he is enjoying football. To see him now is a shame, he looks so fed up and not enjoying it anymore. He could maybe go on to be a decent pro, but I doubt it at Oakwell. The lad turned down approaches from 6 clubs, because he wanted to play for Bransley, yet no scout from Oakwell ever came to watch him play. We had to ring the club up and beg for a chance for him. Leeds, Huddersfield, Man City, Bolton , Oldham and Wednesday all tried to get hi, yet the club only 1 mile from his home could not be bothered to go and watch him. Something is seriously wrong ith the Academy set up and its time we found out why it is not producing anything worthwhile. I dont think its just down to having no playing talent.
The slant you seem to take on things Anything to do with the fact a Barnsley FC representative is signing the cheques that get paid into your bank? What a load of rubbish!
now then knobber i think you are coming accross as a rather arrogant person in your postings so far on this BBS. At no point was any playing staff given any sort of critisim with regards to their ability or lack of. The entire thrad was critising the coaching and coaching set up at oakwell. You cannot argue the point that tam X has an amount of youth internationals. Having seen the head coaches record in writing, 2 wins is it? i believe that something is going drastically wrong and i do not need to be 'inside' football to realise this.
I think its OK having a pop at Markstokes as we know who he is. However who IS red rain (and no offense meant to him), what is his history and has he an axe to grind? How qualified is he to slate coaches? Not that I have an opinion either way but the above are pertinent questions to be answered before you decide which is to believed (if any) In my honest opinion on the young un's Ive seen is that we have been hitting a rich seam of vertically challenged youngsters who will likely struggle to make the grade...
RE: I think its OK However who IS red rain (and no offense meant to him), what is his history and has he an axe to grind? How qualified is he to slate coaches? If he as been watching the academy for 5 years he is in a better position than most on here he just writes it as he sees it let others who go write there report then we can compare how come the club dont do a match report while we are on the subject of vertical impairment why arnt the kids profiles set up to tell us thier hieght and weight like other clubs give us more info
Wow, I seemed to have stirred up a bit of excitement, and me with my feet up watching tele too. Here are my answers to points raised in this thread so far: I have been posting match reports on here for about two years. It has never been my intention to criticise individual players as I think that this is, on the whole, unfair, though they have entered an industry where their performance will be criticised in detail by 10,000 critics every week, so they will have to get used to it sooner or later. I have, on a few occasions responded to questions directed at individual players but my replies have not been cruel on these occasions. My critical comments (as most posters have pointed out) are directed at academy coaching staff and the academy set up. The management of the academy are in a results orientated business and must expect criticism when results, measured in terms of academy graduates playing in the first team, are as poor as they have been, measured over a period of 5 years. Should the club continue to pour money into something where there is no measurement, accountability or return on that investment. As an accountant by training I am forced to question that. I have no football coaching qualifications, and have never suggested that I have, but I have been a season ticket holder for 30 years. As a supporter I have the best interests of the club at heart and feel that I have just as much right as any of the other 10,000. Why are my reports any more irritating to you than the reports submitted by fans attending away games? I do not propose to reveal my real name, this board is after all populated by individuals who prefer to use aliases. Mine comes from a Peter Gabriel song. I am male and have been for 57 years. I am married with one child.
Top notch mate I don't even know why you have to feel the need to even account for your match reports.
TBH your job isn't to wrap Barnsleys academy players up in cotton wool. You're a BFC fan that has just wrote a match report on what you saw at the game in question. I actually thought it was well wrote with no negativity aimed at the young players either.
Me thinks the club, which I am led to believe DOES employ Mr Stokes, needs to leave these petty squables to one side beofre they alienate the fans once more.

Sorry for suggesting you were female Your writing just had that quality. No bluster, no ranting and raving, just an honest account of what you saw. It just made me think you might be female.
no ned to defend yourself against aposter who i suspect has had more than one thread deleted for its negative comments towards the club
Dave Hancock is above criticism cos he's Patrick Cryne's mate allegedly. Edit - to avoid Site Admin getting another email from the club.
