Played friendly footy with and against Malc Shotton. Great bloke but by 'eck he can tackle.

Long time ago but was chatting with David Hirst in Burntwood Hall until some knob started having a go and Hirsty had to be dragged away before he decked him.

Walked past Chris Morgan last year just before the play offs. Decided not to engage!

I got to know Eric quite well and was part of a small group who arranged a leaving do when he was going to St Kitts.
Over the years had many a chat with John Dennis and Barry Taylor.I got to be friends with Les Lea (and still am) .He came round town with a few of us a couple of times but tell the truth it wasn't suited to him.He also calls me Tosh after the great John Toshack.A couple of things about Les.He once lent me his scrapbook which was full of his career snippets and pictures. He also told me he was offered the coaching job at Huddersfield but he turned it down because he was happy working at the crematorium.A true gentleman.
Not Barnsley related but many years ago we had a young lad come and work with us at Naylors for the summer. At the time he was at Hull university. He went on to have a fantastic career at Spurs.Tony Galvin was his name.

I forgot Malcolm Shotton. By coincidence I used to sit near his wife back then, in the west stand upper. Our group got to know her and their then 5 year old son. We would chat before matches and entertain their son. Until one day when Malcolm was injured, and joined her in the stand. As he arrived, we were already in conversation with his missus. He was less than enthusiastic about it, and persuaded us (using sign language involving sudden elbow movements) to back off. I never spoke to her again.

Five years ago we had a table at the Metrodome charity dinner celebrating the promotion year of 2006 ( West Stand Bogs organised ).
Alan Clarke was one of our guests as his son James is a good pal.
Boy did he have some stories to tell but unfortunately most were about his Leeds days !

I was once offered a lift home from Maine Rd by Mick McCarthy.
In the middle of the night I bumped into Brian McCord on my landing, as I came out of the bathroom. Only said “hello” though, no lengthy conversations.

Seeing as there’s a bit of a Malcolm Shotton theme running through this thread, I bought a car from Hayseldens in 1995, the previous owner of which was the man himself. Ford Escort 1.6i Ghia (16v). The salesman actually used it as a selling point.

Not sure there are too many champ / prem footballers driving around in the equivalent these days..
