Talk about judgemental , he’s a sound lad. As others have said I have and hear many conversations with Reds fans and this forum is definitely not well liked and I get it.
Don’t watch it but let me guess he criticises and that goes against the BBS wet wipes rose tinted glasses?
No. He criticises (using fairly strong language) people on the BBS for criticising players. Then he criticises players. Particularly Phillips, who he appears to have a major problem with. It really doesn’t matter in the scheme of things though, because I have chosen not to watch it again and people who don’t like ‘wet wipes’ can choose not to inhabit the BBS .
If anything i think the constant negative posts from yourself about the team and the club is what will drive people away from the BBS.
Can you elaborate on why you ‘get’ why it’s not well liked? It is, but without them giving a specific reason for disliking it, and what makes it worse than any other platform. I can only assume it’s more about said person than the forum. Do they dislike the negativity? Positivity? Humour? Intelligence or lack thereof? Discussion of politics and current affairs? Football in general and other sports? Advise and help? It’s a fairly long list. Is it because they don’t like having their opinions challenged?
It’s viewed as very opinionated and as much as some may hate the phrase full of happy clappers, also that when the masses don’t like something someone has posted, whether negative, controversial or just different to the majority they get singled out and everyone piles on, seen that several times.
What about people who may want to inhibit it while not liking wet wipes ? Or does wet wipe rule mean nobody else welcome?
I didn’t really want to provoke a discussion leading to terms like ‘wet wipes’. I was just taken aback by the nature of his language on Reds Report, and his apparent loathing for the BBS, but then his hypocrisy in going on to do himself what he feels is bad about this forum. I definitely didn’t get the impression that his hatred is due to the ‘happy clappers’ on here; quite the opposite in fact. As far as I am concerned everyone is welcome here.
There is no such thing as a ‘happy clapper’ in my opinion. No one is happy to see the team play badly or lose. We’d all like to be playing at a higher level, bigger gates, better players. Some posters just aren’t as highly strung as others. Could be an age thing, certainly is in my case.
There does come an age where the urge to throw your Teddy out of the pram at every slight disappointment lessens.
I think it’s far too cliquey for a lot of people. I can understand that, it’s been said about this particular board for years. A lot of the lads who travel home & away, week in, week out have joined here before, they sign up and write an opinion or an observation about a game and are shot down pretty quickly by regular posters who haven’t been to a game for 20 years. It happens a lot. You are either part of it, or you’re not.
I still find that ironic, because last season the board was absolutely swamped by folk coming out of the woodwork every time we got a loss, draw or bad performance. They never commented when we won or played well. I think that is what bugs a lot of people. I've never met anyone off this board ( I dont think ), would like to a meet a few, but there's certainly plenty im glad I've avoided.
This board has its flaws and 'characters' but its the best forum for Barnsley fans out there. On here you get Barnsley fans discussing a range of issues from plumbers to politics and MOST of the time the conversations are polite and sometimes informative. Quite a few people on here try to explain their views as well and in so doing I think it shows there are some intelligent folk on here. The bbs has people who make knuckle-dragging comments of course but as I say its the most informative and dare I say interesting forum out there. Yours Mr ME Knuckle-Dragger Dorking
I have never ever felt there’s any cliques on here. But maybe it’s because I’ve been on this and previous iterations of the forum for half of my life that I don’t see how it looks from the outside. And relative to that, when people have been on here for so long, I guess they become friendly so maybe that seems cliquey. The only time I notice a group of posters singling anyone out is when someone is being racist or something similar. Which I think says a lot about the forum from a positive perspective.
