Stockport look a decent side, Earl's battles with Olaofe have been epic.

 

I think the same, some are way OTT.
Stockport area good side, both sides going for it at speed, there’s not loads of time to think .Yes we gave the ball away too easily at times, but so did they.

 

MDG has been our best defender imo.

 

Opinions eh? I think MDG playing really well first half. One slight error but I'd say MoM so far....

 

Our defenders all do the hard bit really effortlessly, then give away a cheap ball to the opposition. MDG especially can go from the sublime to the ridiculous in the space of 5 seconds.

Earl's been excellent apart from giving the ball away a couple of times. MDG however scares me shitless.

 

Apart from the penalty is Phillips on the field .... I haven't heard his name mentioned at all.

 

Connell Dunn and Phillips haven't had a second on the ball since Stockport put the extra man in.. as Wilmersdorf pointed out above.

 

O’Keeffe must have secrets on Clarke if he’s still in the team over Lofthouse…

But that said, I think there’s some harsh comments on here. Yeah ok we haven’t bossed it after the first quarter of an hour but I think you have to credit Dave Challinor and Stockport for that a little. Their number four started getting in the refs ear, he started giving them decisions (like the Mael yellow for example); they got a foothold and we are set up to play from the back with the 5-4-1, they have been smart and not pressed the centre backs too much all the time; they have been excellent off the ball, we’ve invariably had to go long most of the time - and when we do get possession in the middle, I’ve lost count of the times Matty Craig had the ball, looking for a progressive pass, only to see each run being covered and then coming back or square. It wasn’t lack of movement or effort from us all the time, it was them covering ground well.

Stockport have been very good out of possession leading to them turning the ball over quickly - I’m not saying we’ve played well but I don’t think we’ve been terrible, more the opposition have done well.

Taking all that into account, it’s an even game chance wise I’d say; and this is an opposition which in my opinion will finish in the top eight or ten, they are decent.

I like that MdG goes on his mazy runs. I just wish he knew when to pass it, as he always goes just a little too far.

 

What is DKD and Phillips best position?? Are we trying to shoe horn players into positions just to get them in the starting 11?

 

No he doesn't. No he's not.

Our defenders as a whole think they are better ‘footballers’ than what they really are, if they play simple defensive football they are adequate for league 1, but after good defensive play they then think their ‘world beaters’and get caught in posession!

Something is wrong in our set up, and has been for a while. There's so many gaps in our midfield when we're in possession, any misplaced pass creates an immediate 3v3 counter.

We're also insisting on lumping it up from the back, we're supposed to have one of the best midfields in League One, why are we purposefully bypassing them constantly? It's almost bordering on anti-football at times. Get it on the floor, sort out the sloppy passes and let the quality shine through.
