No smoke without fire, just look at our first team, listen to the things being said about players like Digby and RNL then make your assumptions.
But it's a made up story! Just because it's remotely possible we shouldn't be getting at Flitcroft for it until it's known to be true. I can't imagine if we needed to cut the wage bill the first thing we'd do is loan a youth player to a non league side. I don't think the £200 a week or whatever they get has a massive impact on our budget.
It appears to me To be an opinion being passed off as factual information and not that well thought through. As others on the thread have said, if it's necessary to reduce the wage bill, the decision to move on youngsters won't make much of an impact. The accusations being levelled at David Flitcroft not wanting to play the young lads is no different to those levelled at Mark Robins. Whenever a loan player was brought in by him, the question was always asked why he wasn't selecting an Academy produced player instead. When he decided to release Jamil Adam in January 2011, the BBS went into overtime with some posters accusing him of not appreciating the wealth of talent to be found in the Academy, players ready and able to walk straight into the first team. We even had some claiming he was taking the club backwards with his approach. Yet Robins was proved to be correct. The more things change, the more things stay the same.
The 2 that are on loan are on 1 year pro contracts, if memory serves me right, these are given to youngsters who have potential and need to raise their game to the next level and seeing how they cope in lower standard football is one of the ways the manager has to make his decision whether they are ones to keep or ones to release at the end of their contracts. This system as been going on for years, but the numbers given contracts in the Summer were larger.
It's indeed a terribly constructed 'article'. And I do think the author has 'added' his own spin to events. But it is based on fact. As in, we have loaned out/released a few youths. And, more of them have been told to find clubs. That's the managers prerogative I believe. But it's clearly hunting season, and Flicker right now is fair game in a lot of supporters minds. Each to their own. But I'm more pissed about him calling Chris O'Grady 'gee' in his interview t'other day. ******* 'gee'.
So young 17/18/19 year old players are being loaned out to lower league outfits in order to develop and learn the game against Misters rather than passing contests v other bairns and folk are up in arms about it?
