For the second time, we had Simon Mather as referee this season. Like the first time, I thought he was quite whistle happy and didn't let the game flow.
5 for his ignoring obvious fouls while booking too many of ours. Getting sick of seeing players in the refs face every week. So much for clamping down on that
5/10, boosted to 6/10 with a bonus point for being strong enough to only give what he could see - he couldn’t see if the ball was completely out, the linesman didn’t give it, and whilst it looked out we’ve not got a conclusive angle from above, we’ve all seen examples of a ball looking out due to seeing unpainted turf - but a snick of ball still being over a snick of line when checked. 5/10 is for the otherwise overly busy performance
He was equally weird for both teams. Spent lots of times giving no fouls for hard tackles but then just started giving a load of nonsense ones. Fed up of watching opposition players whinging at the ref and nothing happens. Charlton player got booked for remonstrating - he then carried on so the ref then called the captain and him over to have a word and he still carried on. Don’t know why they did the clampdown at the start of the season then stopped in 3 games in.
Can't decide. Went through phases of blowing up for everything followed by letting the game flow for a few minutes. Got very card-happy as the game wore on Not dreadful, though if I supported Charlton I'd have been pretty unhappy about our goal. 5.
I thought he was better than most. As for our goal he had to take the advice of the linesman. some people think he could have awarded Charlton a penalty when a cross struck Williams on the arm. From my viewpoint I couldn't really tell I thought Charlton got some soft free kicks, and there was one instance when Cosgrove was hauled back off the ball and the ref waved play on only to book him a couple of seconds later when he flew in an attempt to get the ball back - booking was correct but if the foul had been given it wouldnt have happened. According to the BBC we were only given 3 fouls all game but Charlton were awarded 12 so I think for minor offences he seemed to favour the away team, so he was hardly a homer, but he did play a couple of good advantages for us and then went back and booked the Charlton player afterwards Id have him again over most of the refs we have had this season. I've given him a 7
I’ve given a 5, he seemed to get very fussy and card happy later in the game. We’ve had much worse. As for this ‘ we got away with one’ for our goal,I have seen absolutely nothing to confirm the ball was fully out of play, so why should the ‘we were lucky type posts’ have credence?
You were BMW. You were seeing Phillips kicking the ball out for a corner and the ref giving a goal kick
I thought he bossed it Loads of good advantages, let the game flow and most importantly gave us a free goal.
Nope. Everyone in the ground started laughing at him didn't they? It's one of the main reasons I've given him a 4. I think he got our goal wrong, the ball looked well out and the corner/goal kick was absolutely laughable. From the reaction of both sets of players and the fans in the ground he must have known he had got it wrong but wasn't big enough to admit a mistake and give the correct decision. Was also very inconsistent regarding kicking the ball away. One player got booked for it and then another did it and nothing got said. Allowed kane to walk from 2 feet inside one touchline all the way to the other side of the pitch when subbed and was just generally inconsistent throughout the game. We benefited from his shitness but there was still shitness
