I must admit I was very surprised by those "probability" figures. They were a long way out for Hunt and Duncan-Smith as well. Probably the weakest part of the exit poll and something that needs tweaking in the future. However, they were still based in scientifically sound modelling, even if they did ultimately turn out to be wrong.

I don't think anyone needs to apologise but perhaps next time it might be best to not slag entire areas of barnsley off, where some of us are really proud to live, on the back of a guess by a bot.

The total numbers were pretty much spot on - the Exit Poll had Labour at 410 seats.

True but I think it's very fair to slag off the fact that more people in Barnsley than can fit inside oakwell stadium voted for a racist party

Is that sit inside Oakwell full capacity, reduced capacity a natural gap plus a block in the East and North empty and half a West stand ? ‍♂️

I wish it was but no it's every seat incthe stadium occupied plus every seat on the academy pitches plus every seat in the conference facilities, boardroom, changing rooms etc. basically every single physical seat within the entire oakwell complex

Yep, they were indeed. It's impressive stuff, even if they're not always accurate on which exact seats go where. Understandable, considering how many wafer-thin margins there were.

Less than 14% of the electorate voted reform in Barnsley North.

Even if Reform had got the number of votes that Labour did, less than a quarter of the electorate would have voted for them.

Despite this, the whole town and its people are a disgrace, purely because of an obviously crude, without nuance exit poll. And the hot headed intolerance of the noisy few.

Those pack animals who were thinking of leaving their constituency might be advised to move to Hartlepool, where they can cite the old monkey hanging precedent in order to justify their “act in haste, repent at leisure” lynch mob tendencies. It reminds me of a witch trial.

There are “thick as mince” intolerant extremists everywhere, on each side of the argument.

As anticipated, very little by way of apologies, and pathetic attempts to justify hate for a whole community despite there being no justification whatsoever.

Duncan-Smith's cause was helped by the fact that the young woman who'd done the hard yards in building personal support in the constituency was dumped by Labour in favour of Shama Tatler after the election had been called. Fazia Shaheen chose to stand as an Independent and came within 79 votes of the official Labour candidate. Their combined votes would have seen off Duncan-Smith.

If the exit poll was correct then of course we’d have disgust and repugnance for the ones who voted that way (and the hate was only directed at those that would have been responsible for retuning that candidate, not the ones who voted for anyone else). Hopefully you would have too. It was listed as 99% on Sky, an extremely trustworthy source normally. The comments were based on it being true, as soon as it was shown to be false then people didn’t keep thinking those things. You’re looking at it with benefit of hindsight.

Speaking of insanely wrong predictions made with an unjustified level of confidence, here's straight-line graph boy, back like a bad penny:

Do you not think it is wise to wait for the actual truth before making judgement? Especially where if you use a couple of brain cells it becomes obvious that what you're being told does not make any real sense?

And even if there was some sense in it, does it go on to give you the right to blanket vilify castigate and pillory the whole of the Barnsley comunity?

It is somewhat ironic that those who jumped to their own idiotic conclusions did so in reliance upon information supplied to them by one of the very corporations that they detest so much.

Unfortunately weren't based on it being true at all. People piled in on what was basically a rumour.

My reply was directed towards anyone who voted Reform. It’s still true for anyone who voted Reform.

Edit: just read your last line. I don’t detest Jay, Sky or ipsos?!

Only half of those areas bothered voting, the half that didn't probably couldn't be arsed because they were voting labour and they comfortably win anyway. If everyone had voted maybe Reform wouldnt have got anywhere near 30%.
