It might result in a more level playing field if clubs are forced to pay less in wages. Players will have to accept terms offered or risk being out of work.
Especially if this comes in to play, which would stop crowds for years to come..... https://www.mirror.co.uk/science/lockdown-cycle-50-days-30-22051982
Owners furlough staff but continue to pay players thousands. Extend one of the players contracts by another year. Then go and buy another football club. I'll take the refund please.
I can see it going the other way and the gap increasing further. The clubs that have owners willing to gamble will have even more than the clubs not. I think it will make players wages even more disjointed too.
Fortunate that I dont need the refund bt would take a voucher/discount on a couple of cup games or even away game tickets when its all up and running again. all season tkt holders from this season could be invited to the 1st FA cup game as guests of the club
Barnsley voted in a bunch of billionaires in the election. How quickly a town forgets. Duped by a bunch of public schoolboys on the abstract promise of “taking our country back”. Should we really be surprised when people say “no, let the billionaires keep my £60”? Whole place has rolled over and let the Tories piss on it and say it’s raining and the owners of the football club are doing the exact same. Pleading poverty so it’s loyal fan base come to its aid for fear of it not existing any more. Well I’m not falling for it one bit. Do you think a consortium who just yesterday bought a fourth football club couldn’t afford to refund £600k? Or even knock it off a season ticket for the next season fans can attend? Pocket change to these people. They treat the club like a business. They treat you like a customer. They treat the football like a product. You didn’t get the product you paid for. Exercise the right of the consumer they treat you as.
The thing you fail to understand - or at least acknowledge - is that what the owners can or can’t afford to do has no bearing on what they will do. They will let the club die and sell whatever they own of it brick by brick if it’s the most economically viable thing to do. And just to check back on one thing - barnsley central retuned a Labour mp, as did barnsley east and Wentworth and Dearne. Penistone and Stocksbridge returned a Tory, meaning places as far central as Dodworth and Cawthorne have a Tory MP. Though given the constituency covers the majority of the north sheffield countryside and over to the north peak boundary, you don’t actually know that anywhere in the barnsley borough voted a Tory majority.
Can keep owt left of mine. My contribution towards suing the EFL. They at least appear to have the balls to take em on.
The truth is that Football as a whole is being used as a political pawn, had to stop listening to sport radio and the mantra of a return being "vital" and "desperately required" also the talk of footballers "mental health" because they are used to the adoration of fans and the adrenalin rush of playing....forget about everyone else, forget about the man in the streets mental health or your job/home situation when the storm is over. Football is being use like giving a child a lolly to stop it focusing on some more important subject. Even MP's stating that the return of football would reinvigorate the nation, ye cos VE days gone so we need another lolly....sorry if I'm being cynical but there's more important things than football......
Interesting to hear (source: The Price of Football podcast) that Partick Thistle offered a refund to 1800 ST holders with only 64 taking them up on a refund essentially because of the club culture/ ownership existing there. The irony is not lost in that Partick Thistle were a target for Conway. I very much wish Conway and co. changed the way they treated Barnsley fans. For business people they are particularly short sighted.
