    RE: About as logical

for most of the season I thought we did ok, it was only injurys and maybe the distraction of the cup run thatcaused us to slideintoover shoulder loooking territory.imo</p>

aye but you have posted a fair bit on here recently with the opinion that we haven;t improved on last season because we have finished closer to the relegation zone on points than last year, I just think that is a bit illogical.

Round and round the garden - like a teddy bear........one step, two step,

    tickle him under there.............

    Round and round and round..........obviously some people cannot be convinced that under all the circumstances of;

    1) Ritchie leaving a squad of players thats now playing mostly in league 1 - in affect a full squad to get rid of after last season
    2) nearly a full squad of players to bring in and this on a shoe string budget compared to other Championship sides
    3) key loan players going back to where they came from in January
    4) negotiating to bring back and purchase this time such quality players as Maken, Nyatanga and De Silva
    5) Injuries to key players......how can any club in the Championship not be effected by injuries to class players like Muller and De Silva
    6) FA Cup run knocking Liverpool and Chelsea out of the cup and culminating in a semi final at Wembley

And after all this roller coaster of a season we still stayed in this division..............and people say it was a poor season because we haven't progressed under this manager..........FFS (doh)

i dont think we have improved

You can look at stats and take different imterpretations from them. Havent we scored less and won less games but have let less in and lost less? The amount of difference is minimal from last season whichever way you look at it. A few points here and a couple of places there. Does that really make a big difference on last season? In the end i was still worried until there was only about 2 hours of football left this season. This even Davey said he didnt want to see happen if we were to improve this season and it did happen.
If you or anyone else think thats an improvement then thats your opinion, personally i dont think it was.

More points, higher in the league, better in the cup, better players

conceded less goals, significantly better goal difference

aye you are right we have not improved.

Nudger ...... Do you think Barnsley are the only club to have injuries?,

I think you will find that every team has injuries to key players, its how you cope without those players that proves how good you are, not how you play with your best players only.
Do you think that we should not have played since Muller and Da Silva got injured and the league should have just given us the average of points we got with them playing?

    you forgot

less games won and less goals scored. You cant just put half the facts on just to prove you point. I think that is what you said, but I have not put the expletives in.

    no I did not

I put the salient facts, the ones that matter at the end of the season.

The ones that give the ultimate indication of whether or not we have in fact improved.

goals scored can only be judged at the side of goals conceded as it is in fact the football leagues measure of relative merit, as indeed are the number of points attained.

fair enough mate, I disagree like.

Purely subjectively, I think the side and the squad we have this season has been an improvement and is stronger. I think we are a more competetive Championship outfit. There were times last season when we looked completely out of our depth, which I have barely seen this season.

Don't get me wrong, I think there are massive areas for improvement - next season is a bit of a make or break season for Davey imho, if we are floating around in the bottom half and go on a bad run I think he may be in trouble. Having said that, I don't think we will and I don't think he will.

    Heehee...

At least you've got the idea of what facts are now. It's always a giveaway when people capitalise FACTS cos more often than not it means they aren't talking about facts.

    Wrong

You fell into that trap. Just because people hold something to be a fact - it doesn't mean that it is true or exists. The dictionary definition of a word may well be a fact but isn't necessarily true.

I think we have improved, davey has sured up the defense, summat ritchie or his predessors couldnt do, the midfield is great too when fully fit, however our strikers are to let down, aprt from macken we are useless upfront and good riddence to nardiello

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Martin Bullock played in the Premiership.

As did Darren Sheridan, Scott Jones, Adie Moses, Jovo Bosancic and a myriad of others. Most of them disappeared off the face of the earth, lots more dropped to lower divisions. Wasn't a bad side though, eh?

We may have better players in the first eleven. I'd argue if we actually had a better side. The football this year has varied between poor and utter *****.

Why are some folk so touchy about the slightest criticism of Simon Davey ?

Because they desperately want to be 'right'.

    It's really important.

More important than Barnsley FC apparently.

On the other side of the coin

We won more games and scored more goals last season. I think you're all arguing over a hair's breadth. The difference between last season's league form and this was minimal.
