By that logic, then you would have to discipline abusive fans, that would only be fair. They are certainly in more of a contractual violation than Dawson. I'm not aware he is contractually obliged to take such abuse and by punishing him, you are giving a green light to every gobshite with a football ticket to shout whatever poisonous crap they like. I'm sure Steve will happily listen to what they have to say man to man, away from the safety of a football terrace or an internet forum. Let's see how many takers there are for that.
I thought you didn't go yesterday? Shea is a disgrace! Simple as. Anyone who's paid (very well or otherwise) to do a job, then doesn't. Gets criticised for not doing what he's meant to be doing. Then resorts to abuse the people who have paid good money to see him not doing his job....... Which bit don't you get???? They love the adulation, they should take the critisism. With an element of professionalism either way!
I didn't. I've made that perfectly clear from the off. I've read what others, including yourself, have said about what happened. Have I got what happened wrong, or are you now saying my opinion is no longer valid because I wasn't there? If it was 'simple as' there wouldn't be a discussion and there clearly is because not everyone is agreeing with you. I get every bit of it, I just don't happen to agree with your conclusion.
Paul, I will reitterate. I was there. Only heard 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' chants. That's not an individual but a collective chant. Warranted aswell. I never heard any racist/ individual abuse. Wind thi neck in fella. I'd gladly talk to Dawson and apologise for the abuse he might have taken, he wasn't the target in my eyes. The whole team was. I'd also expect an apology from him as if wasn't for his behaviour we wouldn't be having this conversation! Ps - were you there?
Yours, aswell as anyone's opinion is valid. That's the whole idea of a forum. If we all agreed it would be as boring as a match against Huddersfield! We'll agree to disagree (mr C this saves me a double post) In my opinion, I was there. I paid my money. I witnessed a gutless heartless display. Fans (not me) said as much. Players acted inappropriatly. They (as fans should be) should be taken to task. But my main gripe is that come 2015, we'll still be there and the players won't! So 2 (or 1) fingers to the 'professionals'........
I wasn't there yesterday, but I don't believe he's kicked off at a general chant and that's not what others are saying. I hear enough crap at just about every Reds match I go to nowadays to get the picture. If that was the case yesterday and a player has reacted, then I don't blame them. And my neck's fine thanks, I'm sick of hearing it all and I'm not worried about saying as much. Yep, we'll agree to disagree.
If anyone was giving two fingers to our lot yesterday, I'd have no problem with that at all. As you said, it was a gutless display. No problem with the 'not fit to wear the shirt' chants either. It sounded very much like that was exactly the case. I just think, when it gets personal, and from Whitey's post and a few others I've read, it sounded like it did, then even a professional should be allowed to stand up for himself. http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showth...erday-and-our-own-jobs!&p=1470128#post1470128 Having said all that, there'll be far more people agree with you than agree with me. Brek Shea will be persona non grata from now on. I do though wonder if that's because people already thought he was **** (which he has been) rather than them being truly offended. I would imagine if O'Grady gave the finger (not that I think he would) there'd be far less outrage and people would be much more likely to forgive. Maybe not, could be wrong, but I don't think there'd be much call for him to rot in the reserves when we desperately need him to avoid relegation. Last time owt like this happened was with Chopra. It caused a fair bit of outrage, but it was very quickly forgotten when he started banging the goals in and he even picked up the player of the year trophy at the end of the season. We didn't like him having a go at the fans when he wasn't playing that well, but it didn't seem to bother us at all when it became obvious he was by far the best player we'd got.
Personally I agree with Jay's post however more cynically Shea is a probably expensive failing so would seem a good excuse to terminate based on it no longer being tenable.
Although would Shea be able to regard himself as a self fulfilling propecy with regards to him taking offence at the chants as he feels that the chants were aimed at him as he must know he has well underperformed. So rather than address that he instead chose to take the easy option and show utter disregard to the fans who paid good money to watch that 'performance'?!? Some folk on ere seem that they go above and beyond to seemingly accept abuse and constant underperformance. Shea had two choices....... he chose the wrong one and acted inappropriatly. That can't be argued.
I can't see anything happening to Shea. He'll just say he was giving the fingers to the individual who insulted Dawson and there's no way of disputing it unfortunately.
He did. But from a distance. He wasn't whoever it was that Daws had the set-to with. I only pointed this out because it was appearing in this thread as though the only verbal aimed at Daws was that he wasn't fit to wear the shirt etc. My mate, and plenty of others said a lot more than that, and I am guessing the bloke(s) who had the barny with Dawson did as well. I don't condone Dawson's actions. I think he was idiotic reacting to idiots. I don't though believe he had owt to apologise for.
