Why don't you send the idea.........

to the football club mailbox or at least put in the issues to be raised with the club and see what response you get?

Whats the worst that could happen as well as helping the relationship with this board and the club?

Give it a wurl and see what the come back with. They may take on board the idea even with a few tweeks by the clubs financial advsors??

RE: Why don't you send the idea.........

    I might.

I wanted to see what the response was here first.

If it was full of yawning unworkable holes then you lot would find them fairly quickly.

If anyone can think of any extra positives or negatives, highlight them and if it seems workable I'll roll them up and pass them to Mr Shepherd for his consideration.

It's only an idea, and it's up to him. I don't have to take responsibility for the club's finances so it's easy to say what's a good idea without having to bear the consequences.

    a couple of possibilities...

...use this instead of the rip off that is the half seaon ticket.

also tie a child's one in with membership with the junior supporters club,,,£20 for full membership and also the ticket scheme...get alot more kid's into that as well.

    RE: Yes...you're right

I think he might have a point that season ticket holders might prefer this option - for instance I tend to miss 1 or 2 home games a season, if the saving from my season ticket is £70 and from this at all games would be £50 then I'd probably be better with this and missing 1 or 2 games.

Missing one or two games would not make it profitable to forego a season ticket.

A season ticket in the east Upper is around £125 cheaper than 23 home games. You would have to miss around 4 games just to break even with the scheme - and then there's the tenner you would have paid up front as well.

Anybody expecting to miss several games would probably not buy a season ticket anyway - But - and here's the point - committing yourself to a loyalty scheme that encourages you to attend by offering progressive discounts as well as other perks - might just squeeze a few more attendances out of people than they were originally prepared to put in.

    Here's How

I work figures out similar to this for the company I work for - what you need are the 'Redemption' figures - i.e. if introduced, what would the take-up be, how many fans would plump for this rather than a season ticket, and what the % margin would be for each level.

At work, I work on % margin of at least 35-40%, so if the cheapest ticket still maintained this margin, as a company, I possibly would go for it.

I could do more figures, but would need more detail on matchday costs, overall costs and actual ticket redemption and all the stats that come with that. But I reckon, if the prices were worked on, it would be a good idea.

The only drawback (as mentioned earlier) is the forward planning for the year ahead. It would have to be released probably after the season tickets, and cross fingers, it wouldn't have the same affect as the 'Bond Scheme' (although Arsenal's bond scheme in the early '90s worked very well).

It is probably worth e-mailing your idea to BFC, and also posting it in the forum on here for requests to BFC.

Oh, and with Chip & Pin, the information can be held on the chip, just like store loyalty cards - Tesco Clubcard, Boots Advantage etc. So all you would need is a cheap software programme which could be purchased, or a kid from University asked to do for free as a project.

I think it sounds like a good idea! I had a season ticket during Prem season and season after just to guarantee I could get to any match but have not had one since because I know that it is not possible for me to get to enough to make one cost effective. A scheme like that would be very attractive to me! That would nearly make us a true supporter!!!!(wicked)

    I think it's a great idea...

send it by letter and you might get at least a reply, and if nowt else make them think beyond putting prices up...

Good idea, but probably wouldn't make a difference

It's a good idea but I don't know if it would make much difference to attendances.
People will come at the start of the season, and then if the team is doing well in the league they will keep turning up. If the team is doing badly, a few quid discount wouldn't make that much difference as the tickets would still cost about £16 even with £5 off.
Playing good football and doing well in the league is the best way to get the fans in.

    You're spot on in saying

that the BEST way to get fans to games is for the team to play well and achieve a good league position, but it's not the ONLY way. The club cannot rely on us being in the running for promotion every season. As sure as eggs is eggs, that is not going to happen. They have to explore all avenues in an attempt to get fans through the gate. As much as some people on here refuse to accept it, the price of admission is a factor in terms of attendance figures and in my opinion the club would be foolish if they did not address that. Maybe the system outlined above is not feasible, but it's certainly worth the club looking in to it.

This is basically what drives the idea.

There are season ticket purchasers, and there will always be those who will NEVER buy one, unless something like Premier League comes along and it's the only way to be assured of seeing a game.

But many people just cannot afford the outlay at the start of the season and do not want to get into debt by borrowing or taking terms.

What happens is that these often very loyal fans see a season of expensive weekly admissions stretching away in front of them, with no incentive to stick with active support, week in week out.

Result - Taking the easy option and listening to the radio commentary at home or on the internet. Going to meadowhell and catching up on Ceefax in Dixons. Going to B&Q and sitting in the car park listening to the commentary while the other half goes to look around.

A progressive discount scheme would offer something else. Discounts which get better every time you attend. Tickets that become more affordable by the visit. And probably most important of all - a feeling of actually belonging to the clientelle of the club and having recognition for that. That is a tremendous psychological tool and, operated in the right way, could potentially pay big dividends in attendances and fan base build up.

You're right about the admission prices - I went to every home game for several seasons in the early 90s, but had to give up when it got too expensive (and I started jinxing games). There isn't any way that I can justify spending £20+ 20odd times a season to sit in the cold watching football when I could just about take the family on holiday for the same money.

This is such a good idea that if our club are sensible enough to do something with it, I could see other clubs doing the same thing.

Could even Patent it, and then cash in on it
