    How does it benefit the nation...

    if for a large percentage of our fuel requirements for heating our homes we have to rely on foreign nations, which could easily hold us to ransom over oil/gas supply.

    At best misguided. At worst vicisous and vindictive.

    Example - news item yesterday, gas production critically low, more coal imports needed urgently.</p>
