The problem with releasing sll these players is replacing them.

Sounds simple, but I read an article about Chelsea's scout who reckoned 60% was a good success rate for new players, i.e. 60% of them will come off. We aren't Chelsea so if we are to replace man for man and get say a 50% success rate in finding players of a better quality we need 14 players. I'd guess anyway. Too much of a clearout, stability out of the window.

    Good luck to them all.

Sad to see Kay and Austin leave, both good enough for this divison with regular football. Austin a better player for left back than Heckingbottom IMO.
Tonge probably better than Mattis but hasn't really been needed, so good luck to him. Richards can't hack this level.
Jarman and the rest just a bit of dead wood.

    A little disappointed

to see kay,Austin and Tonge go. Probably bit of sentiment with Austin and Kay. Always remember Austin with the red Hair when we just managed to avoid drop from league 1. Played with heart, and thought they were all good enough although concedein so many goals does not look good for defensive players. Lets hope the replacements move us on and improve the defense

Its not 7 first team players released though, its 2 and a4th choice striker who has never been good enough to play at this level. The rest are kids who haven't even made it at lower league clubs when they have gone out on loan. Everyone of them leaving frees up more wage budget to bring players in.

OK make that 6 new players to try and replace the 3 first teamers.

Academy = Waste of cash. Shut it and put the savings into buying some established Championship players.

I am expecting lots of triallists over the pre-season period.

We didnt hit that rate with the players last season.

I hope we get 6 or 7 good players over the summer.

I wouldn't be suprised at all to see us sign 6 players this summer. Im hoping Rajczi will be the first and then another 5 will be about right.

We could end up with a load of journeymen looking for a payday.

They'll be waking up in a motel ringing the receptionist to tell them what part of the country they are in.

Bit light on the goals front though and Ferenczi's dried up as of late.

I just think he is one of the best front players we have had for a few years. He works his socks off and to be fair hasn't had that many goalscoring chances. He has a proven track record of scoring goals and hopefully the past 4 months will have given him time to settle to the english game so come August he will be fighting fit and ready to go.

    Austin??

    What rubbish.

He's been the best defender at the club over the last 3 seasons.

Good luck Ozzy i'll never forget the game against Wednesday under Paul Hart when he did 2 dee dahs in the space of 5 seconds in front of the East Stand

Valuable cover at both left and right back. Sorry to see him go.
However, he was unable to force his way into the worst defence in the Championship, so maybe it's fair to say he's not what we need right now.
It's one of those situations where for me, any player on our books can go as long as we can replace with better. I certainly hope the club are not planning on chancing their arm on lower league players to see if they can come good. We may then find it was better the devil we knew.

You could say that or say, if he had played would we have had the worst defence in the league?
