Or when you've been doing it too long without improvement yielding better outcomes - which was my more nuanced point. Otherwise you'd never practice anything and have to get everything right first time!
The one example of Hecky rotating the squad that gets brought up is against Cardiff where he went for a more physical side to match up against Warnock’s side & it should’ve paid off, we were the better side & barring a complete fluke of a goal we would’ve got at least a point which given how well Cardiff have done is a good result. It gets said that this was some sort of turning point but isn’t the truth that we’d just played Burton, Birmingham & two sides in Wednesday & Norwich that were in poor form? Wasn’t the ‘bad run’ following the spell where Pearson ended up at centre back due to injuries to Pinnock & Jackson? There’s a huge, huge difference between that & regularly rotating 4 or 5 players a game including rotating your full backs of which one of them‘s your best player in Yiadom. Pulling players into the side from weeks in the reserves with no u23’s football & expecting them to perform is just daft as is throwing them straight back into the reserves & killing their confidence.
There are changes and there are changes. His treatment of players has been poor and doesn't foster connection or togetherness, he almost purposefully alienates players by playing criticising then leaving them out all together. He then resurrects them 4-6 games later then drops them from the squad completely. I've never seen a manager do this and to young kids it's hugely unhelpful He's not solely to blame, the reasons are multiple, but he is for us being less United than when he started. This approach will fail with any players in any league. That's why I don't want him given any more time, because his management approach is dangerous.
Although I am not fully sure what side of the fence I sit on regarding Jose and I do agree with some of the points you make, But I still think a lot of the criticism he gets is justified. I appreciate that 433 may be his preferred formation but he surely has to be able to see that this is not a formation that suits us. McBurnie is a young striker signed on loan from a team in the league above who has scored a lot in the youth set up for them as a striker. He has come to us and managed 8 goals for us which is a great return in a poor side, yet we insist on sticking him out wide. I do not go to many games any more so you will know far more than me in terms of performances etc. and you can correct me if I am wrong but I am sure in some games this season we have made subs and changes and gone 442 during the match with McBurnie LM which is clearly ridiculous and stupid. Jose surely by now should have noticed that 433 is not the way to go and should have been trying something else. I do agree with the keeper situation, neither Davies or Townsend have been good in the games they have played and both needed to be dropped to give Walton a try. And I do agree that some of the other changes have been justified due to injuries or closeness of fixtures but the sheer amount of changes which was highlighted in a thread I saw on here yesterday is ridiculous. We have only kept the same side once during his tenure I believe which is just baffling, how are we meant to get any run of consistency going when he is swapping and changing every week. Also how can that be good for any players confidence when one week you are in the team and the next week you are not even on bench, some of the games we have played well in but been a little unlucky but then the next game he's made mass changes which to me makes no sense. If you look back to the promotion winning side, we did not make any changes to that side unless we had to due to injury or lack of fitness etc. I also agree he is not fully responsible for the mess we are in, for me the blame lies with many different people. In my opinion the blame starts back after the play off win when we did not sort the contracts of out best players out leading to them leaving. The recruitment in summer was not good enough, we did not bring enough players in and were left short in lots of areas but then with too many players in other position (full back). Hecky has to take some blame too for his poor performances in charge with and some of his tactics were rubbish before he left. The new owners need to take some blame too as they didn't do enough in January with recruitment either. Overall I am still not sure on where we go from here, I do think we will go down and we should have a decent base to build on next season but I am not yet sure on if Jose should be here or not. At the moment though based on what I have seen on the pitch, the results we have gotten and also reports and stories we are hearing I am leaning towards saying he needs to go.
