Talking to an ex red whot came through the youth set up about this..his opinion is

Absolute madness not to have a reserve side its a natural progression. Even if Academy lads playing in reserves come up against other team's Academy lads, it still is progression as the coaches are usually different. More often than not, you will play with, or come up against seasoned pros. He also said, playing friendlies, whether behind closed doors or not is hardly inspiring even with a positive mental attitude.

Last season we were looking forward to seeing the likes of Danny Rose and John Stead featuring more in the first team squad as were hearing a lot about them, we've barely heard anything thing this season. Hope they don't stagnate whilst playing in their comfort zones in the Academy whilstthey're awaiting their opportunity.
bring back the reserves in a competitive league I say.

But the option was there, he could've been playing this season if we had one. Incidentally I went to the Sheff Weds Home game on the Good Friday I believe, and I know they were a lot of Academy lads and a couple of trialist playing. but so was Hugo Colace, This is the type of thing that happens in reserve games. Something a little different to the Academy can make a difference. Incidentally, Rose reminded me of a young Kevin Phillips, really hope he fulfills his early promise.

When Keith Hill was appointed a few of the academy lads stated that they thought his appointment would set their career back by a year or so.

Danny Rose is a good player, seems a nice lad too from what Hill's said and Branson he might take another year.
Where's Clark's a smaller guy but physically ahead of him. Came back into pre season and was in top 3 fittest u18's in england.

To answer what you said earlier Supertyke, it's a balance. I would stick by what i said but that was when they all could play regular football.
