I'd like us to retain our dignity, morality and sense of perspective, but I fear we lost those years ago. Retaining our manager would do, even if he's ****, just to show some mettle.
For competition for Jennings in the unfit and uninterested stakes? Would you sign Pearson if you could?
Of course. He's not the finished article by a long stretch but he'd be a cracking signing on a 3 year deal. I doubt he'd sign though. Maybe harbours the hope that he'll get a chance at Old Trafford. I can't see that myself. And so I expect he'll be back out on loan next season which could be here. I think Bailey, Scowen, Digby and Berry are capable though so it's not an area that concerns me unlike our total lack of width.
I think Berry may be out of his depth in this league. He came to the club as a box to box goalscoring midfielder. He's struggled and as a result has looked nothing more than a below avarage midfield workhorse. I've never really seen him produce any quality. He had a few good home games and played well at Rochdale. But again in those games it were his effort and defensive attributes that came through rather than his natural game. He's given us 110% but when you compare him to Scowen or Pearson he's a good League off. Maybe 2. That being said hopefully he'll play a part next season as he does deserve a run in Hourihanes role.
He was asked to play on the right of a diamond for most of his appearances though, and I think for a lad stepping up two divisions he held his own. He impressed me early on, fantastic against Bradford, Sheff Utd and Rochdale during that first good run of the season. He's got another two years here and I would hope this first season will have helped him develop. As said, I see little to change in central midfield, as I fully expect Liam Kelly to replace Pearson in the holding role, with Berry, Bailey, Hourihane, Scowen and Digby competing for two other spots. Out wide we're a myth.
