Deep recession was promised, the pound would plummet within weeks of the vote if we voted to leave, the 350 million on the side of bus may not go to the Nhs in full but it will stay in the UK. Putting the deal to the people is fine and I agree with you that it is the democratic thing to do as long as remain is not on the ballot paper.

Rabid leavers seem to be very scared of another referendum, is that because they are sure they would now lose with many people seeing the light and changing their minds? Isn't being able to change your mind part of the democratic process?

I did not vote in the original referendum, as I did not feel I knew enough about its pro's and cons for either way..... and I still don't. I hear from various places how bad it will be, and then from others how good it will be. But what I do know is that I am sick to death of it all and will be glad when its all done and dusted ....either way.

 

"Rabid leavers" aren't the problem, if it wasn't for the people wanting a second referendum there wouldn't be an issue regarding another vote, regarding the the democratic process you can change your mind but not before it has even been implemented.

 

By my reckoning only ( still a lot) 14 million give or take a million eligible voters. didnt vote. Given it was a 72% turnout. Bear in mind some of those that didn't vote were undecided. ( After all the spin and lies who can blame em.) Voted remain by the way. Not for myself being an old git. But listening to young uns swayed me. It's their future in our hands.

 

The one's who didn't bother getting there arses to the polling stations, that's how much they were bothered whether we stay or leave

look at my post just above, Many had that feeling too. One thing is for sure we were getting a raw deal. Maybe a better deal for us and stay ... I really did not know then and am less the wiser now, as I feel many are too. A lot of scare mongering is happening from both sides.

 

If you vote for a party in a general election or a particular councillor in a local election and decide months later that you made a mistake, would you demand the vote be held again. No you wouldn't because it's called democracy and it's something that bitter and twisted people are hell bent on destroying.

Parliament has to pass legislation in order for there to be a referendum.

Why bother with all that if all they want to take is an opinion poll?

Everyone knew that the purpose behind all the huffing and puffing, the hustings and the leaflets, the broadcasts and the speeches, that there was a decision being made when we all were given the chance to vote.

Everyone knew that our vote would be acted upon.

This "advisory" stuff is plain pathetic. Not a proper argument at all.

 

You can't change your mind once it has been implemented. Once the UK is out that's it. The only way back in would be to re-apply when the EU could impose the things such as compulsory adoption of the Euro as a condition.
