I don't reall have much comeback when it comes to results in 2012 but its only a short while ago that we bet Charlton and Keith hill was the best thing since sliced bread plus the last 5 games I think a little bit of luck couldv'e and shouldv'e seen us have another 9 points in the board!
It's the age old problem. Many people use the £28 thing as the perfect excuse. I'd love to be able to subsidise the cost of selling tickets for £10 for a couple of months. Just to prove that argument is absolute bobbins. Whenever ticket prices come down, other excuses come out of the woodwork.
I've got absolutely no problem whatsoever with people choosing not to go. Personal choice, and times are tough. I get that, and never condemn anyone for making that choice. What irritates me, is when these people then continue to question and criticise the Club - all from the comfort of Sky Soccer Saturday, BBS and The Barnsley Chron.
I am going tomorrow and expect to see a team giving 100% which they have done all season. I am also taking 2 additional fans to take advantage of the price reductions- isn't that what we've been clamouring for?
Dyson, vegas_tyke and mi fatha. Only 3 in West Lower. Also got an extra 5 coming to the Leeds game. Reight fan me. You're welcome Don.
Hmm, I think there is an element of truth in that mate but crazy illogical pricing strategies, which do not offer value for money have turned people away. 28 pounds is far too much to watch Barnsley play football. The complicated pricing compounds the problem. People have been turned away. Sadly, some will never return, nor will their kids. This isn't something isolated with Barnsley fc, but I don't believe the club has really helped itself.
Why should the right to question and criticise be the sole reserve of those who go week in, week out? There are all kinds of supporters who can't make it to games regularly (e.g. living far away, working on Saturday afternoons, other financial priorities, etc). Why should they not have the right to engage in debate regarding the club, and air their opinions? In fact, it's even more likely that you'll hear from them on here as surely this is one of the best sources of information available on the club for anyone not attending games. I fondly remember the days in the early 90s of 'watching' matches on Teletext with mates at University (all following our own teams as the pages scrolled). Not being at the ground for whatever reason doesn't remove any of the passion felt for the club, and doesn't disqualify anyone from having or airing an opinion, even if it's one I disagree with entirely. There are plenty of forum posters who's opinion I respect massively (even if different to mine) who hardly ever go to games anymore. Similarly, there are plenty of tossers who attend games religiously who make me ashamed that they're attached to my club. Suggesting that the former group have any less right to question or criticise than the latter is entirely wrong.
Going back to the OP's original point, one other reason that people might have for not going tomorrow is that you can argue that the game is ultimately meaningless on our season. Win, lose or draw, it doesn't really impact us in the same way as the league games as it only leads to the prospect of more, hopefully far more attractive, additional fixtures and the chance of a bit more revenue. We're not going to win the Cup, and the chances of us making meaningful cash from a prolonged cup run are slim. In the context of the financial catastrophe of relegation and the ongoing failure of the club to maximise revenues from all sources then it's a largely meaningless fixture, and some folk might just fancy a week away from the continuing doom, gloom and stress of a massive relagation battle.
I'm not talking about having an opinion - everybody has one. I'm talking about constant Club bashing, by people who never step foot in the ground.
