I was there that day & you are right it was a great game especially with it being an away day , Robson was a class act at that level & whist he was at the wrong end of his career he brought quality to the side I had not seen before , RIP Jimmy lad you will always be remembered
Yes, Chesterfield went 2-0, but Pat Howard scored a header and Bob Earnshaw was tripped (??) to give a penalty, 3-2 Reds. Can't remember who got the other. Was Chesterfield's first home defeat of the season (previuosly W10 D1 L0). Met my Dad and brother off the "special" train as had been playing for school vs Chesterfield G.S. that day. Great memories , Kevin Randall was the big hero forward for Chesterfield..
Johnny Evans scored the penalty and another goal, to go with Pat Howard's. Jimmy Robson didn't score on debut, but he did score on his Oakwell debut the next week in a 2-1 win over Exeter City.
If I remember correctly Chesterfield had already beaten us 2-0 earlier in the season so to go there and turn them over was massive.I even recall Keith Lodges headline in the Chronicle the day before.Come On Reds You Can Do It. And we did.
