"He sang songs and danced a bit"

    You're making yourself look foolish.

He changed the landscape of popular music and culture.

His music may not be to your personal taste but it is undeniable that Thriller, his use of breakdancing and his unique videos had significant effect on popular culture today.

    Another candle in the wind....

But as Richard Herring said.."At least this one had been on fire and looked like it was made out of wax."

If he was guiltless he would not have forked out

He shared his bed with other peoples children.

He dangled his "own" child out of a high rise window.

How anyone on earth could idolise a man bearing in mind the above beggars belief, even if he did not sexually assault any kids, which is very difficult for me to believe.

The hyperbole is regarding him and his "talent" is unbelievable.

There seems to be an abability to separate talent from personality running through this Michael Jackson thing. He was a highly talented individual who was so motivated that he went to extraordinary lengths to perfect his craft. He was also an arrogant, egocentric narcissist and a liar. He engineered situations so he could sleep in the same bed as children with no regard whatsoever for how society viewed his actions. He played the Messiah and professed to love all the children of the world whilst blowing obscene amounts of cash on stuff he'd never see again.

An undoubtable talent but let's not pretend he had any value as a human being.

    This begs the question...

Which of the popstars would you let your child/grandchild spend the night alone with?

"An undoubtable talent but let's not pretend he had any value as a human being."

That's a bit of a brash statement. I'm no fan of his music but it can't be denied that his artistic output has brought a great deal of happiness and comfort to millions of people, if that doesn't give him value as a human being then I'm not sure what gives anyone "value" in that sense. He also help set up the "Heal the World Foundation" which donated millions of dollars to various charities and publicly supported at least 39 charities with direct cash donations.

As I said, I was no fan and I was probably one of the first to ridicule the stupid merry-go-round surrounding his death and the false sincerity and short memories of some, but all things considered dismissing him as having "no value as a human being" is just plain wrong.

Go back to my first line and try to leave the talent out of it. Talent alone doesn't give a person worth. Hitler was talented.

Regardless of what tiny percentage of his immeasurable wealth he handed back through his "public" charity work he blew obscene amounts on things he neither needed nor wanted. He slept with children, he lied and manipulated. Great talent, worthless person.

Was he a musical genius though?

How much of his musical output did he write?

    Lyrics?

    Musical arrangement?

Sure he performed it quite well, but he was no genius.
